The
Program
Diocese (of Venice)
Amateur Radio Network (DARN) is a program developed and operated by
Amateur Radio Operators from the Diocese of Venice. It supports
Emergency Communications for the Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice's
Disaster Response Teams.
The DARN Coordinator overseas the program and a group of volunteers
Amateur Radio Operators who operate five UHF/VHF base stations and
auxiliary home stations and mobile units.
On-air exercises are conducted monthly to ensure that all facets of the
program are ready for service (see
Net Schedule).
The Volunteers
Volunteers are
licensed Amateur Radio Operators who are reliable and available in the
immediate aftermath of a disaster. Homebound operators serve as net
control and/or backup for the nearest base station.
