In November of 1999 Dorje and I visited Tibet Arts in Cambridge, MA to purchase some practice materials. The owner of the store gave Dorje some mantra stickers to take home. That evening Dorje's mother asked where he wanted to place the stickers and his reply was "on my bedroom door so they will know a Lama sleeps here." This was just one of many things occurring over the years that always made me raise an eyebrow. I spoke with my Buddhist mentor, Lobsang Tashi, about this and he suggested that I look into having a MO done for Dorje to see if he had been a Lama in a previous life. The problem being, where to go for such a thing? Well, I didn't have to contemplate long...karma taking over for me (and why does this not surprise me?). Two days later, Tashi received a flyer in the mail announcing that The Venerable Lama Kalsang Rinpoche was in the United States touring and would be in the Boston, MA area from November 18 through November 28 and would be offering the Gesar of Ling MO Divination!!! I called immediately and scheduled an appointment for Saturday, November 27, 1999 at 2:00pm.
Dorje and I had our audience with Rinpoche and I explained through his translator my experiences with Dorje and my desire to know if he had ever been a Lama in a previous life. To my surprise and delight, Rinpoche said that Dorje had been a Lama in MANY of his previous lives, and that it came through so strong that he knew this about one third of the way through the MO. The translator told me Rinpoche felt this was very auspicious.
After blessing Dorje and his mala, Rinpoche gave him the name Karma Dorje and said he should receive the Manjushri Empowerment when he was old enough since this was the path he should follow during this lifetime.
