Milarepa Pictorial

This is an arial view of the Milarepa Center. The brown barn to the right of the house has been torn down since this picture was taken. As you can see, Milarepa is situated high on a mountain-side in beautiful Vermont.

As you begin your drive up the steep path towards the center, this delightful sign appears on your left.

This is Milarepa. We all have different reactions to centers we visit. The first time I went to Milarepa, I felt at home and a part of my surroundings. The first floor of the left side of the building is where the Lama stays and teaches. The second floor contains private and semi-private rooms for use during retreats and the attic houses their beautiful meditation room. Over to the right, the main dormitory is located behind the three dormer windows.

This view of the mountains and surrounding area is what you see when you stand in front of the house.

Normally hidden from view, we were able to take this picture of a retreat hut when the arrival of winter took the leaves from the protective trees.

As you walk up the stairs to the rooms and meditation room, this beautiful statue of Milarepa greets you.

I'm sorry this picture of the Milarepa meditation room is not as clear as I would have liked it to be, but my hands were shaking while I was taking it. I would like to tell you it was because I was in awe of my surroundings, but the truth is when I first entered the room I turned to my friend and gasped, "Look! They built their meditation room to look just like yours!", to which he replied, "Actually, I built my room to look like theirs." When I realized what I had said, we both broke out into laughter. *smile*
