Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

2002

Well it's that time again for us to recap our year and to fill you in on what we are up to. We had several family experiences again this year that will be quite memorable. We have much to be thankful for, knowing that there are many who are less fortunate than those of us in this country who have so much. For Peg and I, this is our first year working with our church summer missions project where we helped put together the teams of college students who would go overseas fund a two-month summer missions experience. We really enjoyed getting to know the many of the incredible young people who are part of our college ministry and University Presbyterian Church. We also finally found time to take the membership course and formally join the church. We look forward to being part of the summer missions project again this year and also are looking at how we can participate ourselves in a mission project in about 18 months - more at a later time on that!

Peggy has been continuing her practice in pediatrics and Sand Point Pediatrics where she maintains a very busy practice working half time. She really is in a great group of pediatricians which makes her work life to a pleasure although she is very busy during today's she actually is in the office. Peggy also has been working on her writing skills by taking several courses at the University of Washington in writing this year. She really has enjoyed the time to create stories and work on her writing technique that may someday lead her to produce a book for publication.

I continue on with my work as the program director at Swedish Family Medicine Residency. The job is full of challenges in this day and age in medicine where many of our priorities are not in line with the needs of the community. The program is doing very well with excellent residents being recruited each year and our training program is expanding its training options for the future. I spend much my time now supervising residents can managing the administrative aspects of the program which is quite a shift from being more in practice seeing patients. I still have a small practice of my own as part of our training clinic to do enjoy the variety of things I do every day.

Daniel is now and junior high at King's Junior High in North Seattle. This school is much larger than the school he was in before and has greater offerings of classes which he seems to be enjoying much more this year. Daniel has taken up his guitar skills to a new level of now playing electric guitar as well as acoustic guitar, though the former is certainly is most favorite. He also is a very social guy with lots of activities with friends both had his school and his youth group during the week.

Kristin continues to excel in the fourth grade and has a broad interest in both her academic subjects as well as her sports activities. She had another great year in soccer this year and is now playing basketball this year for the first time. She is quite an athlete and we just wonder what she will be doing with she gets to high school as I am sure she will be on several teams during each school year. She also has taken up Spanish this year and has several good friends nearby as she spends many hours playing with.

Our big trips of the year included a trip to Hawaii where Peg went to a meeting and the kids and I spent the days on the beach enjoying the waves and water. We were able to do snorkeling, boogey boarding, and hiking along the coast. He was just great to be in such a warm place with perfect water temperature to lounge in all day. Our second trip to the summer was an eight-day backpacking trip to Northeastern Oregon. We hiked up into the Wallowa Mountains and spent most of the week high in Alpine zones surrounded by mountain lakes and beautiful granite peaks. Though it was August, on one afternoon we hiked up to the summit of a 9600 ft. peak where we were snowed on during our descent. Fortunately, it was a brief storm that passed through and most of the weather was quite beautiful.

Well the fall has arrived and winter is beginning to show itself here though somewhat later than usual. The snow in the mountains is opening up our playground for the winter time.  We will spend our requisite number of days dragging the kids up to the slopes to get out and enjoy the mountain air.

We hope you are doing well and look forward to seeing some of the during this year and hearing from most of you during this holiday season.

Mike, Peg, Daniel and Kristin.
