Organizing
Kmenu with the KDE Menu Editor
Written by Northbear
One of the pleasant problems with Linux
Distros is the huge number of applications available. For Ubuntu
Ultimate Edition (and others) there can be so many applications in a
Kmenu section that it covers the entire desktop like this:

So, how to fix this? You want to make the
Kmenu more organized using submenus. Just highlight an item in the
section of Kmenu you want to change and right click. A menu will
appear, just highlight the "Edit Item" option and left click. This will
invoke the KDE Menu Editor:

Now use the Menu Editor to add a new
submenu. Just click on the "New Submenu" icon, give the new submenu a
name (Web Browsers in this example) and then drag the submenu to where
you want it in the main menu:

Drag items from the main menu to your
subfolder and arrange them as you see fit. Keep adding subfolders and
moving items until it's all the way you want it:

better! |
The default icon for a submenu is a frumpy
yellow box. Why not a nice folder icon instead?

Once you've added submenus and moved the
items, Kmenu will look much nicer and take up a lot less space on your
desktop!

Nice to have your desktop back, isn't it?
