SHARP, John R.
John R. Sharp was born March 16, 1863, a son of James King Sharp and Minerva Jane Hull Sharp. John Sharp, a well known resident of this city died suddenly of a heart attach Monday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Sampson. Funeral services were held in the Bruce Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon and burial was in the Whitfield Cemetery. Rev. D.A. Shuck was in charge.
Mr. Sharp was 73 years of age and spent most of his life in the Bruce community. He was married to Frankie Taylor, who preceded him in death. Mr. and Mrs. Sharp were the parents of 7 children, 2 daughters have died, those surviving: Roeland of Sullivan, Adlai of Bruce, Dick of Shelbyville, Charles of Bruce, Mrs. Fred (Nellie) Sampson of Sullivan. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Mrs. Mary Burress of Dalton City, Mrs. Jane Swank of Dunn, and Mrs. John Bragg of Sullivan. There are 26 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
SHARP, Mrs. Frankie Ann (Taylor)
Mrs. John Sharp passed away at the family home in Bruce Tuesday afternoon, May 2, 1928, her death causing general sorrow throughout the community. Mrs. Sharp was seriously ill early in the spring, and after lying at the point of death, she got so that she could walk about. A week ago she took down again and gradually grew worse until the end came. Her maiden name was Frankie Ann Taylor, and she was born to Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Taylor, now deceased at Sullivan on September 25, 1865, and grew to womanhood there.
On August 6, 1889 she married John Sharp, and a few years later the couple came to Bruce, where they have since made their home. Mrs. Sharp was a faithful Church member from girlhood. Since coming to Bruce, she was a member of the Bruce Methodist Church and until ill health prevented her was very active in the work of the Church.
Besides her husband she leaves 4 sons, Roeland J., Dick T., and Charles of Bruce and Adlai D. of Huron, South Dakota, one daughter, Mrs. Nellie C. Sampson of Bruce, 4 brothers, William Taylor of Kansas, M.B. Taylor of Lovington, James Taylor of Springfield, and Lee Taylor of Sullivan, 2 sisters, Mrs. Mattie Fread and Mrs. Hattie Pifer of Sullivan, 20 grandchildren and several other relatives. Two daughters, Pearl and Leota preceded the mother in death. All the living children were here when the end came.
Funeral services were held at Bruce Church Thursday afternoon, with Rev. D.A. Shuck in charge, assisted by Rev. R.A. Illk. Burial was in Whitfield Cemetery.
