Davis WeatherLink - APRS/Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP)
Overview (Version 5.2 or later)
Real time observations from your home weather station can be of great interest to the many
people across the country who share your interest in the weather. Your data is also
valuable to NOAA in their ongoing weather research. Weather data from stations
participating in the APRSWXNET appear on the NOAA Mesonet Map Display: http://www-frd.fsl.noaa.gov/mesonet/
.

Amateur Radio Operators
If you are an amateur radio operator currently sending APRS weather data to findu.com, you
can join APRSWXNET by sending an e-mail to russ@wxqa.com
(Russ Chadwick, KB0TVJ) with your call sign, elevation in meters, and nearby
town. If you are an amateur radio operator who is not sending APRS weather data and you
want to send weather data over the internet, just use your call sign. Your ham radio call
sign takes the place of the CW Designator in steps B and C below. You won't need a CW
number.
Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP)
If you would like to send data via the Internet, participation in the program requires
three simple steps:
1. Obtain a CW designation number (or designator) using the form
located at: http://www.findu.com/citizenweather/cw_form.html .
You will receive an e-mail reply with your assigned number (similar to
"CW1234").
2. Enter your WeatherLink Internet
Connection Settings.
You will need to configure your Internet connection settings,
but note that no FTP information is required APRS.
Note: If WeatherLink gives you an Invalid FTP Host,
Invalid FTP User Name, or Invalid FTP Password message, and asks if you want to use it
anyway, click Yes to use it. Valid FTP information is not required for APRS. You only need
to enter the FTP information if you are uploading data to your website.
3. Make sure Internet Transfer Enabled is turned ON in either Internet Settings or Internet Connection Settings.

4. Complete the WeatherLink
APRS Setup.
WeatherLink has been configured to produce and send these packets to the findu.com server
via Internet. Just enter you Amateur Radio call sign or CW number along with the latitude
and longitude.
5. Turn ON APRS in the Data Upload
Profile dialog box.

6. Check that your data is successfully reaching the findu.com server at
one of the following websites:
- replace CW1234 with your CW designation number. This gives the location of the reporting
station and displays the last packet received.
Packet Checking (parts 1 and 2).
- Lists all active CWOP sites on the findu server.
· http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi?CW1234 Lists the last
weather data received plus charts of the previous five (5) days of weather. Replace
CW1234 with your CWOP ID #.
7. If your data and location are correct, send an e-mail to
chadwick@fsl.noaa.gov giving your CW designator or ham radio call sign and ask to be
registered so your data can flow from the findu.com server to NOAA.
