Kristy

A Tribute to Our Best Friend

Kristy was 14 years old when we lost her to brain cancer. For most of her life, she was an active and loving pup. Saying goodbye to her was one of the hardest things we've ever done. I was moved enough to try to capture her playful innocence in a song patterned after Loggins and Messina's "House At Pooh Corner".

Picture of Kristy

Kristy would watch our neighbors walk by
Or she would lay in the sun till noon,
Passing the time with sleep and toys galore,
Yet, her days disappeared all too soon.

"But, I've been gone much longer than I should,
They're all alone and need me there for good.
So help me if you can, I've got to get
Back to my house before dinner's begun.
You'd be surprised, there's so much to be done--
Chew all the toys I can find,
See if ol' Tigger's outside."
Those were the days we'll always remember.

Kristy the dog doesn't know what to do.
She picks up the scent, follows her nose,
And comes to me seeking more than a bite,
Oh that face, and those eyes, on she goes,
So I went in to get her some corn, if it's there,
She'll eat it on the cob and won't stop 'till it's bare.

"So help me if you can, I've got to get
Back to my house before dinner's begun.
You'd be surprised, there's so much to be done--
Chew all the toys I can find,
See if ol' Tigger's outside."
Those were the days we'll always remember,
She was the one we'll always remember,
She was the one we loved.
