You know these Pert Plus ads where that annoying guy goes around washing women's hair in public? Why are all the women attractive? I don't remember an ad where they wash a big, fat, ugly woman's greasy hair. Just wondering...

Liberalism is the new McCarthyism. Really, pick any of the liberal pet projects. Racism. Animal rights. Gun control. Gay rights. Environment. Who is doing the bomb throwing? The left. It is as bad to be labeled by the leftists today as it was to be labeled a commie by the House Committee on Un-American Activities in the 40's and 50's. Back in the red scare days, people who had any kind of left-leaning sympathies were branded and persecuted. Lives were ruined. McCarthy was eventually condemned for his fanaticism. Was he right or wrong? That's not to be decided here. What I do want to address is the intolerance of the people supposedly preaching tolerance. Do you own a gun? GUN NUT! Do you disapprove of homosexuality? HOMOPHOBE! Are all of your friends white? RACIST! Do you enjoy a good steak dinner? ANIMAL KILLER! Are you a religious person? RELIGIOUS ZEALOT! It even seeps into places you would not expect. This morning, Dick Schaap was opining about the return of John Rocker and his reception by the Braves fans. John Rocker. What was his crime? He said some stupid things. String him up! Banish him! Break out the tar and feathers! Dick (an appropriate name) said that he was disappointed that Rocker only struck out one batter in his 1-2-3 one inning appearance. He was hoping that Rocker would strike out the side, K-K-K. Oh, that's cute, Dick. Roberto Alomar, an Hispanic baseball player, spit at an umpire. Many were appalled. (Probably racists.) He was forgiven. Latrell Spreewell, a black basketball player, choked his white coach. Many were horrified. (Probably racists.) He was forgiven. John Rocker, a white baseball player, said some stupid inflammatory things to a Sports Illustrated reporter. Many were disturbed. Some will never forgive him. For what? For his words. It will be politically advantageous for some to keep the issue alive. Such speech should not be allowed, right? It should be censored, right? I used to go to a barber who made racist and anti-gay remarks. I called him my "racist barber." I stopped going to him. He no longer gets my business. I guess I should have organized a picket and tried to have him thrown out of town and ruined his business. There have always been these kinds of people. There will always be these kinds of people. If you ignore them and do not give them any attention, they have no power. I can't wait for the questions we will get from the House Committee on Unpopular Speech. Are you now or have you ever been a gun-toting, gay-bashing, Jesus-loving, animal-murdering, Earth-destroying racist?

And another thing ...

This 2000 census is crazy. The television and radio commercials are downright offensive. More scare tactics from your big and friendly federal government. Instead of getting an accurate count for congressional representation, the census has turned into a political tool. The long form (which I did not get) asks the most intrusive questions. How much is your mortgage? How far do you travel to work? How many times in the past year have you had anal sex with your spouse? (Well, it might as well ask!) "Get your fair share" has become the motto of the census. The ads show a house burning while the announcer laments how more federal funds are needed for fire protection. The ads show a teacher leading her class of adorable little children into their new classroom, a converted janitors closet, while the announcer laments how more federal funds are needed for education. The ads show a single mother working as a waitress who has to bring her child to work while the announcer laments how more federal funds are needed for child care. My questions: What does the federal government have to do with funding for city services like fire and police departments? What does the federal government have to do with funding for local school systems? What does the federal government have to do with the care of that woman's child? Fire and police services should be funded at the local level. Decisions about the school system should be made by the local community. The waitress is responsible for the care of her bastard child. How about that village Hillary used to talk about? That village is her family, her neighbors, her church. The village is not a big building full of bureaucrats in the District of Columbia. What I'd like to see is instead of deciding how much of money the federal government took from us will be returned in the form of government programs, let's decide what we could do if our money wasn't taken from us to begin with. The money could stay at the local level. We could spend it on schools, on the fire department, on the police department. What a wonderful world this could be.
