Let's do the time warp again!

Did I fall asleep and wake up in 1974? (I hope not. None of my clothes would fit.) This is what the Democrats and other mindless idiots in this country are trying to make me think. They are carefully trying to replace in our minds Iraq with Vietnam, the September 11 Commission with the Watergate investigation and Bush with Nixon. They are not even doing so covertly. It's right out there in public view. And with the same people! Case in point: Richard Ben-Veniste. For those who are under 50 years old, Ben-Veniste worked in the Watergate Special Prosecutor's Office. And since the left see G.W. Bush as being as crooked as Nixon, it's a natural to have this vicious partisan hack on the September 11 Commission. (He was also one of Bill Clinton's impeachment defenders. Nuff said.) Did he ever show his stripes in his attack on Condoleeza Rice. Let me give you some of the transcript:

Ben-Veniste: Isn't it a fact, Dr. Rice, that the August 6th PDB warned against possible attacks in this country? And I ask you whether you recall the title of that PDB?
Rice:
I believe the title was, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States." Now, the...
Ben-Veniste:
Thank you.
Rice:
No, Mr. Ben-Veniste...
Ben-Veniste:
I will get into the...
Rice:
I would like to finish my point here.
Ben-Veniste:
I didn't know there was a point.
Rice:
Given that -- you asked me whether or not it warned of attacks.
Ben-Veniste:
I asked you what the title was.
Rice:
You said, did it not warn of attacks. It did not warn of attacks inside the United States. It was historical information based on old reporting. There was no new threat information. And it did not, in fact, warn of any coming attacks inside the United States.

I heard this little give and take live as it happened and it made my blood boil while it also clearly showed to the world what is really going on. Richard Ben-Veniste is not interested in getting to the truth about what happened and to be able to help the commission put together a report that explains what our security shortcomings were and how to fix them. No, that's not what Mr. Watergate is on the commission for. It is glaringly obvious in the questioning above that he is in prosecutor mode. He knew what was in that briefing. He knew there were no warnings in it. All he wanted was for the defendant (Ms. Rice) to state the name of the report in an effort to embarrass and discredit her and the administration in the eyes of the jury (American public). Is that the charge of the commission in any way, shape or form? Of course not. To her credit, Rice did not play that game. She talked him down and explained what it was and what it was not. Not only was Ben-Veniste not able to make his courtroom play work, he looked every bit the Democrat political attack dog that he is. One problem with the exchange is that the media will be able to edit the questioning to make it come out as Ben-Veniste intended without Rice's explanation. (They already have.) But in the end, those who believe the administration and the Bush haters and conspiracy nuts who despise everything about the administration will continue to do so. I can only hope the light of truth has shined enough on the lying deceitful monsters on the left for some citizens to have their minds opened and hearts changed.

And another thing...

Boy, wasn't Vietnam great? I'm really starting to think there are people who are actually saying things like this, because they are trying their damnedest to turn Iraq into Vietnam. Ted Kennedy should be ashamed of himself. (For many reasons, not the least of which is the incident at Chappaquiddick.) No, in this case it is the constant attempts to convince people silly things like the war in Iraq was preordained, it is a disaster and a quagmire and a mistake. (This is cleverly called by some as the Ted Offensive. Damn, I wish I'd thought of that first!) The talking point du jour is that we cannot win and must withdraw. We fought wars from the inception of this nation (in a war, by the way) until Vietnam and won them all. We have fought wars since Vietnam and have won them all. And the reason we lost Vietnam was due to the lack of will to fight it on the part of politicians. Why on God's green earth would we want to return to the situation that created our shameful withdrawal from Vietnam? You know why, but if you don't I'll let you know in a bit.

But let's compare some numbers, shall we?

Vietnam Iraq
Length of war: 90 months Length of war (so far): 12 months
Number of dead: 58,168 Number of dead: 601
Killed / month: 646 Killed / month: 50
Result: Humiliating defeat Result: Eventual victory

I got these numbers from the web. I don't know what dates were used to determine the ninety months for Vietnam, but if the fall of Saigon at the end of April 1975 is used as the end date, then the start date would be November 1967. And I use twelve months for the length of the war so far in Iraq only because of continued casualties. The actual coalition v. Iraq military campaign lasted weeks. The rest of the casualties have been a result of piss-ant resistant attacks by Baathists, Saddam loyalist and your run-of-the-mill Middle Eastern terrorists. But look again at the numbers. There have been fewer American military deaths in one year in Iraq as the average month in Vietnam. I know, I know. Facts don't matter in the world of politics anymore. (Or did they ever?) But the truly frightening thing about all of this is that people actually want us to lose. These are Americans! They want our forces to be defeated. And it's one thing for the average brain-dead anti-war hippie protester type to march and chant and think they can change the world and human nature, but it is entirely another for our government officials and politicians to be pulling for our embarrassing defeat. Ted Kennedy, Robert KKK Byrd and the rest of that sorry lot have to drill it in your brain that this is a lost cause that we can never win. They managed to pull of the trick thirty years ago. They are trying again. The difference between then and now is that we are at risk. There was a war declared on the U.S. that we were not aware of until September 11, 2001. To pray for our defeat in Iraq only worsens our security. This is of no concern to Ted Kennedy (neither was Mary Jo Kopechne) or Robert Byrd (neither were KKK lynchings). All that matters is a return to power. If American servicemen and civilians in Iraq or here at home have to die to achieve that goal, so be it. Shame on all of you.
