Turret

05-2009
One thing I didn't like about the Tiger was that reloading was very slow. I added this hatch to access the ammo tray without removing the turret top.
Joe Sommer was experimenting with vacu-formed ABS plastic Tiger components and I was lucky enough to acquire the fruits of his labor. There were two turret shells, two storage bins, and a cupola. The vent on top is a detail piece I picked up from a modeling site that produces 1/6 Tiger parts.
I got two turret shells from Joe. One was already a bit screwed up, the other was more pristine. I screwed up the experimental shell even more, then decided to get some fiberglass practice by repairing it. The result is what you see here. When I get my courage up, I'll cut into the better shell and make a prettier turret.
Turret with the shell removed. You can see the paintball hopper and marker electronics. The marker interfaces to the PC I/O board but can also be fired manually using the pushbuttons. The toggle switch selects whether to power the marker from the main tank battery or by a separate 9v turret battery. This way, I can fire the marker without the tank being on. It's a lesson I learned from building RocketMan.
That's a 12oz CO2 bottle in the background. It's on a slight incline.
Here you can see the elevation mechanism, commander camera, and CO2 bottle.

The software allows very fine control of the elevation servo.
