Who am I?

Sometime ago, I gave a report to an organization of which I am a member. My committee had done its work, and I was well prepared. Two minutes into the report, I was feeling confident and comfortable when a man sitting in the front row blurted out, "Who are you?"

Good question. If you're interested in working with me, you deserve a straight answer.

I'm a published author, a former university professor, and a recipient of numerous grants and awards. I've written technical and marketing materials, World Wide Web content, personal essays, policy papers, and political risk analysis. I've done policy research for a U.S. Senator and ghostwritten letters for the Director of the Peace Corps. (Okay, that was many years ago, but I still know how to do it.) Other writings in my portfolio include scholarly books and articles, fiction, and film criticism. My short novel, In the City of the Plague, was a finalist for a Pirates Alley Faulkner Society prize in 2001.

Testimonials

My collaborative writings cover a wide spectrum, from personal memoirs to software documentation. I had a hand in the creation of The Instant Productivity Toolkit by efficiency expert Len Merson and Transplanted: A Memoir of Faith and Vision for American Muslims by Dr. Mahmood Sarram. I have collaborated on a project about strategies of electronic discovery in litigation. I've worked with consultants in several fields, actuaries, a cardiologist, an attorney, a clergyman, software engineers, and CEOs. I've worked with people down the street, across the continent, and halfway around the world.

But I take my greatest pride in a Souls in the Hands of a Tender God, which I had the privilege of co-authoring with Seattle street chaplain Craig Rennebohm.

Company work. A partial list of the companies and organizations with whom I've worked would include:

  • Milliman Consulting (Seattle)
  • Intellilink Solutions (New York)
  • SPI Litigation Direct (Manila, Austin, and Seattle)
  • Microsoft (Redmond, WA)
  • GartnerGroup (Stamford, CT)
  • Adobe Systems (San Jose and Seattle)
  • Institute for Public Health Genetics, University of Washington (Seattle)
  • Boeing (Seattle)
  • Frost and Sullivan (New York)
  • TPD Publishing (London and Seattle)
