The devastation
from the horrible and senseless attacks has deeply affected all of us. Our
thoughts and prayers continue to be with those who were personally touched by
the tragedy at the World Trade Center and in Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania.

We are pleased to finally be able to announce
the release date of the first wave of the LIVE PHISH series, which will
consist of six complete, multi-CD concert albums to be released every six
months. The first batch of six albums will arrive this fall, with the first
five released in stores September 18 and the sixth coming in early October.
The band commissioned longtime Phish artist Jim Pollock to create cover art
for the series; when the six individual packages are arranged together, they
form one large, panoramic illustration. All releases were mastered from Phish
sound engineer Paul Languedoc's original two-track soundboard mixes.

folded vinyl inner sleeve with four pockets -- three holding discs (two in

sleeve can be unfolded and inserted directly into the custom-designed ShowCase,
a deluxe 3-ring CD organizer manufactured by Case Logic, for easy storage and
portability.
The ShowCase will be packaged with LIVE PHISH 06 when it is
released in stores in early October; LIVE PHISH 06 will also be available

Dry Goods. For more information on the packaging, please visit Phish Dry Goods

Mike
is immersed in the editing phase of a feature length film he's directing
that documents the recording of "THE DEEP END", the upcoming
Gov't Mule albums. The albums are a tribute to original Gov't Mule
bassist Allan Woody, who also spent a number of years playing bass for
the Allman Brothers Band. The project's concept was to feature a
different bass player on each track, and the band recorded over twenty
tracks with a veritable who's who of rock bassists, including John
Entwhistle, Flea, Phil Lesh, John Paul Jones, Bootsy Collins, and Tony
Levin. In addition to the film work, Mike co-wrote and played bass on
the track "Banks of the Deep End". Due to the substantial
amount of music, there will be one album released on October 9 and
another next spring. In addition to footage and interviews from the
sessions, Mike has also conducted interviews with a number of people who
knew Allan. No release date has been set for the DVD, but it's likely to
be available early in 2002.
In other Mike news, his film "Outside Out" will be featured
at the 1st Annual Two Boots Stop Look and Listen Film Festival in New
York City this week. The film plays in a double feature with
"Bittersweet Motel" on Friday night, September 21 at the
Pioneer Theatre, located at 155 East 3rd Street (at Ave. A).
"Bittersweet Motel" plays first at 10 pm, followed by
"Outside Out" at midnight. For the most up-to-date
information, please visit the Pioneer Theater web site at
www.twoboots.com/pioneer or call them at (212) 254-3300. For more info
on Outside Out, check out the official site at www.outsideout.com
Page went to New Orleans this week to record some music that he's
been writing the past couple of months. For this project, he recruited
Oteil Burbridge (bassist for The Allman Brothers Band, Aquarium Rescue
Unit, and his own band, among many other projects) and drummer Rusell
Batiste (The funky Meters, Allan Toussaint, Robbie Robertson, Harry
Connick, Jr., Wild Magnolias). They'll be recording for about two weeks.
There are no plans for a release any time soon -- we'll keep you posted
when we have more information.
Page McConnell and Oteil Burbridge sat in with Papa
Grows Funk Monday night at the Maple Leaf in New Orleans. Page and
Oteil sat in for the second half of the set, which included incredible
versions of "Love The One Your With" and "(Thank You) For
Lettin' Me Be My Self". Both Page and Oteil are in New Orleans
recording with Papa Grows Funk for their upcoming album.
It's been widely reported elsewhere, but for those that hadn't
heard...Page plays on the debut album of Tenacious D, due in stores on
September 25. The "D" have been favorites of Page and the
other Phish band members for some time now. For more info on Tenacious
D, now on tour, check out their site at www.tenaciousd.com
Jon Fishman special guest at Mimi Fishman Benefit Show
On
October 5, Jon Fishman will join Merl Saunders and his Funky Friends,
Col. Bruce Hampton and the Code Talkers, and Sand Bear in paying tribute
to his late mother, philanthropist and longtime Syracuse resident, Mimi
Fishman. The benefit concert will be held at the Landmark Theatre in
Syracuse, New York. A Tribute to Mimi celebrates the life of a very
visible and loved member of the Phish community, Mimi Fishman, whose
foundation will receive a charitable donation from the concert's
proceeds. Her philanthropic dedication was sparked by her love of music
and her life with the debilitating disease of glaucoma. Thousands of
dollars have been donated in her name to the American Glaucoma Society,
as well as other charities, from previous fundraising efforts. Tickets
are on sale now at all Ticketmaster locations, online
and at the Landmark Theatre box office. Visit www.mimifishman.org
for more information.
** "No one slept
between Vegas and San Francisco not the band or the fans
or the crew. Vegas was decadent, splurging for a private jet to get there, using
a huge suite to practice songs, entertain musicians and athletes. We watched Les
Claypool and gambled all night too, until sunrise. Finally it became time
to...stay up." End of
Tour: words and photos by Mike Gordon.
** The Phish hiatus has
begun. In Las Vegas, Trey explained that the band will be going
on their first extended hiatus after this tour. They have been playing together
for 17 years and want to take a break to write new music and relax so they can
have another 17 years. It is not known how long the band will be off tour. Trey
thanked everyone for their support, especially their awesome crew

Spencer Tunick documentary to air on
HBO HBO will debut "Naked States," a documentary about artist Spencer
Tunick, as part of its "America Undercover" series on Sunday, April 8 at 10:00
PM. The 74 minute film captures Tunick as he travels across the United States
inviting his subjects to pose nude. A major part of the film is devoted to his
photographing 1135 people at
The Great Went. Though you may have seen similar footage in "Bittersweet
Motel", this documentary provides more of the photographer's perspective. Check
HBO for additional airdates.
We're sad to report that Fish's mother, Mimi
Fishman, passed away on January 16th at the age of 64. Mimi was a wonderful
spirit and an avid music lover. She was fond of dancing at Phish shows and
appeared on stage many times with the band, often taking a turn on the
Electrolux. She will be greatly missed by all of us in the Phish
organization. All memorial contributions should be directed to the Mimi
Fishman Foundation, through which she organized her charitable efforts: The

Bittersweet Motel was released on
DVD and VHS on March 6th. Both formats feature extra footage, including uncut
live performances of Punch You in the Eye, Maze, Big Black Furry Creature from
Mars and Lawn Boy, as well as additional interview sequences that didn't make it
into the film. The DVD edition also includes the original theatrical trailer and
an interview with director Todd Phillips, and offers Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS
Surround Sound. The film is presented in its original 1.85:1 Theatrical Aspect
Ratio (letterbox). The DVD and VHS are currently available for pre-order from
Phish Dry Goods.
Outside
Out is the feature film debut of bassist Mike Gordon. Starring Col. Bruce
Hampton, Ret. as a bizarre guitar teacher who "unlearns" his students all they
ever knew, Outside Out is part experimental narrative part mock-infomercial.
Conceived, shot and edited over a period of 4 years, the film recently appeared
at the Nashville Independent Film Festival and won an Audience Award at South by
South West 2000. With a score written by the director and performed with Jon
Fishman and other special guests, as well as soundtrack selections from the Col.
Bruce Hampton discography, Phish fans are "83%" certain to add this to their
collections.
"Amfibian Tales",
the recent release from Trey's longtime lyrical collaborator Tom Marshall, is
now available from Phish Dry
Goods. Amfibian also happens to be the name of Tom's band which is currently
playing in various spots around New England. The disc features Tom's lyrics
supported by his pals in the band and several other guests. There is one song on
the disc co-written by Trey and Tom called "Nothing", which never became a Phish
song and is sung by the two women of The Saras -- another band in which Tom has
a hand. For information and to hear music from Amfibian and The Saras, check out
Tom's production company, Furry Thug
Productions.
Two tracks from the Farmhouse recording sessions
are now available for digital download from Tower
Records, CD
Plus, Sam
Goody and CD
Now. These songs, Driver and Mist, were included on the Japanese release of
the CD.
The Siket Disc,
formerly obtainable only from Phish Dry Goods, has been released by Elektra and
is available in stores now. This CD is a collection of improvisational pieces
recorded live by the band at Bearsville Studios in 1997. This material was then
edited and arranged by Page, who recently commented, "Over the last couple
years, the music on this disc has really grown on us. It captures some of our
esoteric in-studio jamming that hasn't been reflected in our other releases."
Trampled By Lambs &
Pecked by the Dove, an album by Trey Anastasio & Phish lyrcist Tom
Marshall, is now available.
The album consists of 25 raw tracks recorded by Trey Anastasio and Tom Marshall
in 1997 during 4 weekend songwriting sessions. There is an unmistakable
immediacy and excitement to these tracks, as the songs were recorded to an
eight-track digital tape machine as they were being created. Their efforts over
a total of 9 days yielded 10 songs featured on the 2 most recent Phish albums,
The Story of the Ghost & Farmhouse, as well as additional songs that have
been performed live by Phish, but not recorded in the studio. This CD also
contains songs from the sessions which have not yet been heard elsewhere.
The songs on the album, in order, are Brian and
Robert, Limb by Limb, Blue & Shiny, Twist, Wading in the Velvet Sea,
Farmhouse, Saw it Again, Piper, Flat Tornados, I Don't Care, Windora Bug, No
Regrets, Water in the Sky, Heavy Things, Never, Vultures, Ghost, Dirt, Driver,
Sleep, Olivia's Pool, Bug, Name, and Dogs Stole Things.
Outside Out, the feature film debut of Mike
Gordon, is also now available to
pre-order. Starring Col. Bruce Hampton, Ret. as a bizarre guitar
teacher who "unlearns" his students all they ever knew, Outside Out is part
experimental narrative part mock-infomercial. Conceived, shot and edited over a
period of 4 years, the film recently appeared at the Nashville Independent Film
Festival and won an Audience Award at South by South West 2000. With a score
written by the director and performed with Jon Fishman and other special guests,
as well as soundtrack selections from the Col. Bruce Hampton discography, Phish
fans are "83%" certain to add this to their collections.
