Amateur Radio Showcases Emergency Communication Capabilities | |
| The Hurricane Expo, which was part of the Custom Home & Remodel Show, was held on 6 August 2006, at the Gaillard Auditorium, in downtown Charleston, SC. New Home Charleston and WCBD News 2 partnered to present this event. | |
| The all-day expo informed Charleston area citizens on how they can protect themselves before, during and after a hurricane. The expo featured a hurricane simulator and a demonstration area which included a live demonstration of Amateur Radio. In addition, WCBD News 2 Chief Meteorologist Rob Fowler broadcast his weather live from the Expo. | |
| Berkeley County South Carolina ARES, along with their counterparts from Charleston and Dorchester counties, operated an HF/VHF/UHF Amateur Radio station using generator power and temporary antennas. | |
| Over 45 local, state and federal agencies and organizations participated in the event. | |
| The Expo was be a great opportunity for the public to experience Amateur Radio and it's capabilities in times of disaster. | |
