Hams" from the Low Country join in national deployment Public Demo of Emergency
Communications June 27 - 28 | ||
| Berkeley County "hams" will join with thousands of Amateur Radio operators who will be showing off their emergency capabilities this weekend. | ||
| Over the past year, the news has been full of reports of ham radio operators providing critical communications during unexpected emergencies in towns across America including the California wildfires, winter storms, tornadoes and other events worldwide. During Hurricane Katrina, Amateur Radio – often called "Ham Radio" - was often the ONLY way people could communicate, and hundreds of volunteer "hams" traveled south to save lives and property. | ||
| Members of Berkeley ARES/RACES, will hold Field Day at the Berkeley County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), 223 North Live Oak Drive, Moncks Corner, from noon on 27 June till noon on 28 June. | ||
| A "Western Shelter" system will be setup in the open field to the right of the EOC building by the Pine Ridge FD. They will erect the system on Friday evening 26 June and teardown on Sunday evening 28 June or Monday morning 29 June. We will conduct our Field Day operations from the shelter from Noon on Saturday, 27 June through Noon an Sunday , 29 June. | ||
