| synergy
one little barbershop quartet that believes that four guys can do more than any one member!
It started May 1990 when half of Crystal Ring (Kevin Gregan - lead & Steven Zellers - bass) came together with half of Hogans Heroes (Bill Wilkinson - bari & Mike Bracken - tenor) to make something special. Well we did...lasting friendships!
This original version of synergy was short lived as Bill had to move on to Texas and the international stage with another quartet (Tuxedo Junction). We replaced Bill with Barry Dignam and sang the Music Man for a regional theatre (Puttin On The Ritz). It was while doing this 4 times a week that Mikey fell in love with the footlights and dropped the quartet to pursue various theatrical roles.
Barry moved to tenor and the bari was replaced for a district contest by Don Reichenbeil. Don later formed another quartet and went on to the international stage (do we sense a trend here?).
Barry temporarily dropped out of the fine art of barbershopping and moved to Florida. The quartet was disbanded.
In 1994 we reformed for a contest with another tenor and bari combination. Cal Johnson, from Sound Revival fame, sang tenor and Wayne Levick sang baritone. This version was put together for a contest and when that performance was over Wayne went on to sing in a gospel group and Cal to sing with his son.
In the summer of 1995 Steve & Kevin put together a little quartet to sing on a Sunday morning church service...thus begins the current version with Guy Kirk and Marshall Fisher.
Synergy in one combination or another has sung on Division and District contest stages, for chapter shows, various events and gatherings, and is trying to sing well while enjoying a great hobby! During 1999 a reoccurring gig was singing backup to one of the best Elvis Presley impersonators in the country. We literally sang with a band and to crowds of screaming spectators crowding the stage to get a closer look...at an impersonator! Whod of believed it.
Since the start, this little barbershop quartet has been forming chords and friendships that will last a lifetime...if that isnt synergy what is?
