will be planning for Pops, the Banquet, writing to former music students in the
military,
Chorus
Vests and New Marching Band Uniforms.
Come
on down.
Wed Jan 21 at 6:00 in High School Band Room. All EB students Grade 7-12 are welcome.
Bill will be speaking to the parents from 6:00 to 6:30 and we will have coffee and refreshments in the chorus room at 6:30
Friday, February 6 at 7:30 pm.
in the EBHS Auditorium.
It is budget time again. The Selectmen
have asked the school committee to provide a level funded budget for next
fiscal year.
The problem with level funded is that
the cost of federal, state and contractual mandated items goes up every year.
This means that in order to provide level funding, the school committee is
looking at cutting almost $1 Million from a $16M budget.
Since Music is not a Federal, state or
contractual mandate, it is one of the items that can be cut.
Please follow the budget process and
let your voice be heard. It is important that people show up. A full room at
school committee or a selectman’s meeting gets attention. Budgets Items are
very difficult to change at Town Meeting in the spring.
We will update the dates on the MPA web
page as we get them.

School
Committee presents budget impact to selectman |
Special Thanks to Anne Perry for providing the link to this.
It
is well over a hundred pages long, but the Executive summary is only 5 pages
and is very interesting.
It is called "Champions of Change - The Impact of Arts on
Learning."
It is prepared by "The Arts Education Partnership" and "The
Presidents Committee on the Arts and the Humanities"
It is an analysis of 7 studies on the arts and learning.
This study looked at both in school and outside school arts programs and the
effects on learning.
The conclusion is that
"Students with high levels of arts Participation out perform
"arts-poor" students by virtually every measure."
One study compared the performance of sports,
community service and arts programs for youth, and again the arts students were
the highest performing.
All of the studies demonstrated a theme that learning in the arts, enhanced
learning in other areas.
