The Purpose of Intercessory Prayer in the Life of MCC Baltimore
by Duane Lewis
A quick description of intercessory prayer is to stand and pray for those people, places, and things around you that may not have found their relationship with God. In essence, performing the act of creating a bridge line to heaven, so that gap can be filled with blessings. Intercessors "stand in the gap" and support the bridge line with faith and prayer. When Jesus Christ left his deity to dwell amongst mankind, he performed a great act of intercession. He connected our lost tribe back home. It is by standing in this gap that we can continue with the very nature of the work our savior Jesus Christ performed.
There are examples in both the Old Testament and New Testament that affirm God's call on us to stand in the gap. In Ezekiel 22:30-31, because the Lord God did not find anyone to "stand in the gap," to intercede for the land, He was requited to pour out the judgment due its disobedience. And in Exodus 32:7-14 Moses' intercession for the people of God, in pleading with the Lord for mercy, held back the hand of God from consuming the nation in His wrath. We are loved by a just and a true God that works for good in all and looks for the good in us all. In Acts 12-5:12, from the New Testament, because "prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God," Peter's "chains fell off from his hands," "the iron gate ... opened to them of its own accord," and he was led out of the prison by an angel of God! Also, understand that every captive in that jail was set free through the intercession of Peter's Church.
We know as a church that prayer is our strongest spiritual weapon. That with prayer we can open the heavens and have lives, people, places and things changed in wondrous ways. It is our purpose in Intercessory Prayer to meet God with constant persistent prayer. A prayer that lifts up our very being as Christians, we are promised that we can destroy strong holds and that we can ignite a holy victory right here on this earth. We only need to start with prayer and end with prayer.
Let God expand your spiritual life, let loose those chains that keep us from claiming our victory, let loose those doubts of who we are in Christ; and acknowledge the spiritual armor that has been placed around us. Become a Prayer warrior - join us in Intercessory prayer either at MCC Baltimore on Wednesday at 6 pm or join the Middle River Group on Tuesday at 7 pm.
