Environment
- We have a beautiful, state-of-the-art environment. People tell us just walking through the doors is inspiring.
- Our building is 54,000 square feet, just built in 2005.
- Most of our classrooms are 1,400 square feet. They are bright and cheery, with high ceilings and big windows. Each classroom feels like home, with live plants and real artwork.
- Each classroom has its own mini-library, bathroom, outdoor deck and kitchenette. The kitchenettes have refrigerators, sinks, microwaves, stoves and ovens. This means that we can do a lot of science experiments and art projects right in the classrooms.
- Each classroom has plenty of computers. In fourth grade and up, every student has a computer. The classrooms also have large screen monitors, digital cameras, scanners, document cameras and interactive projectors.
- Outside, we have 20 acres, with several playgrounds, two soccer fields, a baseball field and basketball. We also have a small woodlands, a wetlands, a pond and a creek. The science teachers and the students love all of these outdoor learning opportunities.
- We have two mobile multi-media carts, complete with several digital cameras and digital video cameras, the most recent editing software, high-tech lighting and a green screen.
- Our Gym has a full-size basketball court with six hoops, adjustable to 8 or 10 feet. We also have a professional volleyball set-up and equipment for lacrosse, floor hockey, tee ball, gymnastics and many other sports.
- The Art Room has all new art supplies, including a pottery kiln and a printing press. The Art teacher displays all the students’ artwork in several huge display cases in the hallways. Students, parents and visitors love strolling the hallways to check out the displays.
- The Music Room has a piano, 9 synthesizers, drums, mallet instruments and a variety of other instruments. We also have karaoke machines and recording equipment so the students can capture their creations on CDs or DVDs.
- The Science Lab has a Lego Robotics table and two G-scale train tables. We have a huge variety of kits for studying sound, light, rocks, the body, etc… One of the favorite items is the microscope that hooks up to the large screen so we can all see the magnification at the same time.
- The Main Library has over 7,000 books. In the Teachers’ Resource Room and the individual classroom libraries, we have another 4,000 books.
- The stage has overhead lights, microphones, a multi-media lectern, and a 12 foot screen. Students also give presentations in the less formal pit in the library.
- The cafeteria is large and bright, with microwaves for all. We also have a commercial kitchen where we make hot lunches.
- Our building is licensed by the State of Michigan and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC.)
- Eagle Creek Academy was awarded with a 2006 Crow Island School Citation for Interior Design Excellence in American School & University.
