Biography:

Ernest, a native of New York City, developed his appreciation of nature during his summers in Bayville, Long Island. Enjoying the pleasure of waterfront living, he developed a deep admiration for the open sea, its mystery, vastness, and power. As a teenager, he took courses at the New York Institute of Photography, working with models, still shots, and street scenes. His college art professor greatly influenced Ernest in the appreciation of art. After graduation, he endeavored to be an art hobbyist, enrolling in art courses at New York University and The New School as well as local art guild classes to develop his newfound interest in oil and acrylic paints. However, as much as he enjoyed art, his professional career was in banking and finance for 35 years for several large banking institutions in New York City. During this period, he continued painting as a hobby. His artistic interests turned to travel and photography, taking in the culture, landscape, museums and architecture of Europe, The United States, Mexico and several Caribbean Islands.

Now retired, Ernest has renewed his interest in photography and painting, joining the Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury, NJ, where he is an exhibiting artist as a photographer and awarded as a prize-winning member. As a member of Monmouth County Arts Council, MCAC, and the Monmouth County Camera Club, he has met many distinguished artisans. As featured in an Asbury Park Press and other New Jersey newspaper articles, his artwork can be viewed at various art galleries, craft shows, and New Jersey libraries. His passion for the arts has sensitized him to his natural surroundings, always seeking new subjects. His photography and paintings today are returning to the seascapes, landscapes, and mountain scenes that were his initial youthful passion.

Fulfilling a year long ambition to create a venue for emerging and local artists, Ernest Antholis launched the Western Monmouth Campus Gallery at Brookdale Community College's Branch Campus in Freehold, NJ. The gallery opened February 1, 2006, with monthly exhibitions. The exhibits feature artwork which includes all media, photography, oil paintings, watercolor, and drawings of subjects such as landscapes, seascapes, flowers, architecture, animals and abstracts.
