With heavy hearts we announce that Medicine Hawk departed this life on June 26, 2011. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.

Medicine Hawk was a Muscogean (Creek) from the Poarch Band in Atmore, Alabama. He was a Pipe-Keeper, Purification Lodge Leader, and a practicing Teacher & Scholar in the ways of Native People. In 1993, he and his wife founded Earth Mother Awareness, which became the vehicle through which they followed the calling of their hearts to help others find their way back to themselves.

In living out the teachings and traditions that were passed down to him, Medicine Hawk was a great blessing in the Spiritual lives of countless people. Hundreds of schoolchildren of all ages met him through the programs he presented in schools around the Southeast. Talks he gave regularly at Loyola University impacted all who heard him. Many people came to him and his wife Mary Ann (Looks Within Woman) for Vision Quest, Purification Lodge, Rites of Passage, and other life-affirming and healing ceremonies and programs. He was also a Caretaker - of Mother Earth and of all those he loved.

Loving Husband, Father, Teacher, Mentor, & Friend .... a man of great strength, courage, generosity, humility and integrity. One could not be around him without being inspired, challenged, and changed for the better. Medicine Hawk was an "Elder" in the highest sense of the word. Though sorely missed, he lives on in the hearts and memories of all those whose lives he touched.
