Chapter 10
After Jason ordered breakfast for Brenda, and said goodbye to her and Robin, he headed over to Il Paradiso to check in with Sonny. There, he found Sonny in the office with Benny. "Jason, I was just going to call you in," Sonny said. Jason closed the door and took a seat next to Benny; "what's wrong?" "Benny tells me that there's a new player in town, and he's requested to meet with me." "Who?" Jason asked, looking at Benny. "His name's Joseph Sorel; he's from Chicago. He was under-boss to Anthony Moreno there. Supposedly they had an amicable parting of the ways, and Sorel left looking for greener pastures." Jason looked back to Sonny, "I guess he got lost, huh?" Sonny smiled, "looks like it." "He's hoping you two can work together," Benny added; "his interests would augment yours." "Let me take the meeting Sonny," Jason said, "I'll set him straight." Sonny put up his hand indicating that Jason should calm down. Benny shifted nervously in his seat. He worked for two very different, but very dangerous men. Sonny was of course in charge, but he delegated a lot of responsibilities to Jason, and Benny dealt with him on a daily basis, only occasionally meeting with Sonny himself. Jason was slow to anger, but when he got mad, he could take someone down in seconds flat. Sonny was angry a lot, but was reluctant to get violent himself. He didn't need to now that he had Jason. Benny walked a thin line between them. Sonny looked at Benny, "I'll take the meeting...Jasoon will accompany me." Jason let out a sigh of relief; he was fiercely protective of Sonny and hated when Sonny handled things on his own. "Yes sir," Benny replied; "where and when?" "Here, 2 o'clock." "Sonny, are you sure about that?" Jason asked, wondering if Sonny wanted to risk Brenda seeing what was going on. "We're just having a civil meeting Jason," Sonny told him; "Benny, make the arrangements. And, he comes alone, or all bets are off." Benny nodded his head, got up, and left.
Sonny got up and poured himself a drink of water. Jason sat quietly while he drank it. Then Sonny turned to him. "I know you've got my best interests at heart Jason, but don't contradict me in front of my men." Jason swallowed, "I...I'm sorry Sonny. I just thought..." "What Jason?" Sonny asked, agitated. "I just thought that maybe you wouldn't want to risk Brenda seeing anything. That's all. I know you two are together now." Sonny raised his eyebrows, "how do you know that?" Jason smiled, "well, I was in Kelly's when she finally came home from your date. I took that as a good sign." Sonny smiled as well, and walked back over to sit behind the desk. "It is a good sign; a very good one." "So, you had a good time?" "The best. She's one hell of a...lady." "That's great, I'm glad. But how much to you want her exposed to?" "She's already figured out that I'm into more than this restaurant. I think she's cool with it. Besides, what's she going to see? A man meeting in the office with us...he could be anyone." Jason nodded his head, "OK. Whatever you say."
That afternoon at 2 o'clock Joseph Sorel entered Il Paradiso. He was nervous about going in without guards, but Sonny's representative told him that was the only way the meeting would happen. Sorel knew all about Sonny's operation; he knew what Sonny was into, and what he wouldn't touch...drugs. Sorel didn't see why he couldn't run drugs in Port Charles and peacefully coexist with Sonny. He hoped Sonny saw things the same way. Otherwise, things would get complicated. Meanwhile, Brenda started getting ready in her room at Kelly's for work. She was excited to see Sonny again, and hoped the night would end up as the last one did; with them in bed, and on fire.
