Chapter 12

Jason returned to the restaurant a couple of hours later, after disposing of Joseph Sorel. He took it slow, and made sure it was especially painful. In the end, Sorel begged him for mercy and Jason finished him off with a small caliber bullet in the brain. Then, he called Benny and told him they needed to identify all of Sorel's men and make sure they knew their boss was dead, and that they would be next if they didn't run for their lives. When Jason got to Il Paradiso, he found it open as usual, but no sign of Brenda or Sonny. He figured they were probably together at Sonny's place, so he decided to go see Robin instead. He was also not eager to get chewed out, and he figured that he would be. He had messed up and allowed Sorel to get his hands on Brenda. Sonny would be furious with him, for sure. He called Robin and arranged for them to meet at his place, a room above Jake's bar. Robin still lived with her Uncle Mac Scorpio, who was not a fan of Jason Morgan. Mac, a private eye, didn't know about Jason's role in organized crime in Port Charles. To him, Jason was just an angry young man; a shell of his former self. Mac didn't think he was good for Robin, and was quite vocal about that fact. When Robin arrived at Jason's, he filled her in on what had happened, leaving out the details of the meeting between Sorel and Sonny. "Oh my God, is Brenda all right?" Robin exclaimed. "She's fine; probably a little shaken up. I think she's with Sonny at his place." Robin wasn't so sure, and picked up the phone and dialed Brenda's room at Kelly's.

"Hello?" Brenda answered in a quiet voice, hoping it was Sonny.

"Brenda? Are you OK? What happened?"

"Oh Robin, yeah I'm OK. It was really scary. How did you know something happened? Did Sonny tell you?"

"No Jason, I'm at his place now. He told me what the man did, what happened after?"

Brenda started crying again, "I got upset with Sonny, then he just backed away from me. Robin, he didn't even care if I left!"

"I'm sure that's not true Brenda. You don't know Sonny, he blames himself for everything. When Stone got AIDS, he kept saying he should have been able to protect him from it."

"Well, that was Stone. With me, he just got all cold and quiet and he let me leave without saying anything. He doesn't care!"

"Brenda, I'm coming over," Robin told her, and hung up the phone.

"She's really upset," she told Jason. "She thinks Sonny doesn't care about her now. Jason, you know he's blaming himself for what happened." Jason shook his head, "but it wasn't his fault. It was mine. I screwed up Robin! He probably won't trust me now to do my job!" Robin sighed, she had two very upset people on her hands; actually three...Sonny was out there somewhere beating himself up. "Jason, Sonny needs you right now. You have to find him and make sure he's OK." Jason nodded his head, "OK, I'll start at the penthouse." "Call me on my cell phone if you need me," Robin told him. They kissed goodbye, and went off to attend to their assignments.

Sonny lay unconscious on the floor in his penthouse, surrounded by shattered glass and broken furniture...When he got home, he immediately downed a scotch, then threw the empty glass against the wall. He could hear Brenda's voice calling his name; it was full of terror. He could see her face as Sorel held the knife to her. Then, her face turned into someone else's...his mother. Only this time, it was all bruised and battered and the name she was crying out was "Deke!" Sonny sent the contents of his bar onto the floor with one swipe of his arm. He staggered over to the couch, holding his head in his hands. There, he turned over the coffee table, breaking the vase on top. He felt his chest start to constrict as he heard his mother calling out over and over again; her eyes begging for mercy. He took the poker from the fireplace and began smashing everything in sight. His mother's face turned back into Brenda's, only this time Sorel was on top of her, raping her, and she was screaming for him to stop. "Stop! You're hurting me! Sonny help me!" Sonny collapsed onto the couch, and Brenda became his mother once again, "no Deke please! Stop!" Sonny passed out from the weight of his memories and the knowledge that this time, it was Brenda who was the victim. "You're no better than him!" he cried, before everything went black.
