Well Worth the Wait
a Sonny & Brenda story
Chapter 15
They finally showered, dressed, and went downstairs to get something to eat. They were both ravenous, and with good reason. Sonny picked up a note that lay on the dining room table. It read, "Boss, when you have a second Joseph." Sonny told Brenda to hang on and he went to the front door. When he opened it, Joseph snapped to attention. "Did you get the car?" Sonny asked. Joseph looked nervous, "uh, yes and no." Sonny stepped out into the hall and closed the door. He didn't want to go off on his man in front of Brenda. "What the hell does that mean?" "I went there like you said, and I knocked on the door to tell them I was taking the car so they wouldn't think it was stolen." Sonny nodded his head, "go on." "Well Mr. Barrett came out and told me that he paid for the car, so Bren I mean Ms. Barrett couldn't have it." Sonny felt his blood boiling, "and you listened to him?" "No! No sir. I told him that I had my orders and I was taking the car, and that he shouldn't get in my way." "Good. So what's the problem?" Joseph shifted nervously. "Well sir, the thing is " "Spit it out Joseph!" Sonny bellowed. "I got in the car and started the engine and the next thing I knew he picked up a rock and started smashing it. He dented the hood, smashed the windshield I managed to drive off, but the car's in bad shape sir." Sonny ran his hand over his eyes. "He's just asking for it," he muttered. "I I didn't know what you'd want me to do," Joseph added. "I mean I got the car, but I didn't know what I should have done with him." Sonny patted him on the shoulder, "it's OK Joseph, you did fine." Joseph let out a sigh of relief, "thank you." "OK, this is what I want you to do "
After giving Joseph his instructions, Sonny turned to go back in the penthouse. Joseph hurried to open the door for him. He closed it behind his boss and sank back against the wall. Just then, his replacement Pete arrived. "What's wrong?" he asked his friend. Joseph shook his head, "nothing. Just another day with Sonny Corinthos." Inside, Sonny expected to find Brenda waiting in the dining room, but she was nowhere in sight. He walked into the kitchen and found her pulling things from the refrigerator. "Great stuff in here!" she exclaimed. "Oh yeah? You cook?" Sonny asked. Brenda giggled, "I can but I don't!" Sonny smiled and rolled up his shirt sleeves. "Then step aside my dear, and let the master handle it." Brenda gave him an impressed look, "the master huh? Don't tell me you can cook too!" "Oh baby, you think I'm good in the bedroom? You ain't seen nothing yet!"
Later as they ate, Brenda moaned appreciatively over Sonny's cooking. "You weren't lying baby!" Sonny beamed, "I told you." "Yeah, yeah, yeah is there anything you don't do?" she asked. Sonny laughed, "I haven't found it yet!" Brenda changed the subject, "so, did Joseph get my car?" Sonny's eyes grew black and his mood got just as dark. "No." "Oh Sonny, I hope you weren't upset with him! Maybe there was a good reason!" Sonny had already arranged for the car to be taken to a body shop and fixed up. But until then, he didn't want Brenda to know what her father had done. "I was as upset with him as was appropriate," Sonny told her; "don't worry; I'll get your car."
The next day, Frank wanted to meet with both Sonny and Harlan
in his hotel room before he left town again. He wanted to make some changes
in their "arrangement;" changes he figured would make him even more
money. The two other men went reluctantly, knowing there'd be a nasty confrontation.
But they both were smart enough to wait until Frank had concluded his business
before starting anything. And since Sonny was never one to shy away from a
fight, he got things going when Frank asked, "anything else we need to
discuss?" "Yeah," Sonny answered after clearing his throat;
"let's discuss how this asshole owes me $600." Harlan raised his
eyebrows, "what did you call me?" Sonny looked at Frank, "wasn't
I speaking loudly enough?" Frank gave him a disapproving look, "Sonny,
calm down. What's the problem?" "The problem," Sonny replied,
refusing to look at Harlan, "is that he has no respect." "I
respect people who deserve it," Harlan muttered. "Watch it!"
Frank snapped. "Sonny is my representative in Port Charles, and you will
treat him with respect!" Harlan didn't reply. Frank turned back to Sonny,
"why does he owe you money?" "Because I had to shell out to
fix up Brenda's car. Sonny turned his eyes to Harlan and added, "you
remember the little 'accident' her car had, don't you Harlan?" "My
car," Harlan replied. "I bought it, I own it. Your goon stole it
from me." Sonny ran his hands over his face trying to calm himself down.
He spoke through them, "you're asking for it old man." "OK,
OK!" Frank interceded. "I'm not sure what went on here, but if Sonny's
says you owe him money, you owe him money. Pay up!" Harlan was pissed
that Frank took Sonny's side, but knew that arguing further would be putting
himself at risk. He reluctantly took out his money clip, peeled off six one
hundred dollar bills, and threw them on the table. "There." Sonny
picked up the bills one by one, and tore them in half, saying, "if you
think I'd take a dime from you, you're even dumber than I thought." He
stood, turned to Frank to shake his hand, and then left the room. "He's
out of control!" Harlan exclaimed to Frank. "It appears so,"
Frank replied, "maybe you and I should proceed without him."
