a Sonny & Brenda story
Chapter 16
When Sonny left the meeting, he had Joseph take him directly to the body shop that was repairing Brenda's car. He tracked down the owner, who tried to appear cheerful when he saw Sonny approaching. "Mr. Corinthos! Hey, how ya doin?" "Where's the car?" Sonny asked. "Well, see, the thing is…" Sonny turned to look at Joseph and asked, "this guy's not about to tell be the car's not ready, is he?" Joseph looked at the man, "no boss, I can't imagine he'd do that." "End of the day, I swear!" the man exclaimed. Sonny didn't reply to him, but told Joseph, "come back at the end of the day, and bring me that car." "Yes sir," Joseph replied, shooting the man a warning glance before following Sonny out. As soon as they had gone, the man scrambled into action, pulling everyone off their other work and pointing at Brenda's car. "I don't care what it takes, this gets done today!"
Sonny picked Brenda up at school, and she greeted him with a smile, a smooch, and a question. "Oh, did Joseph get my car yet?" Sonny froze and stared at her. "Sonny? What's wrong?" "There was a slight problem with the car Brenda." "What? Oh don't tell me, my father wouldn't let him have it." "Something like that. But I'll get it, I promise you." Brenda hugged him, "I don't care about the stupid car Sonny. But I love that you care so much. I love you." Sonny smiled and kissed her. "So you're not mad?" "Naw. It's much more fun to go to school in a limo anyway!"
Once home, they headed up to the penthouse and Joseph took off for the day. Pete was guarding the door, and informed Sonny, "you've got a visitor boss." He opened the door for them and they went inside. There, Sonny came face to face with his past as he looked into the steely blue eyes of Joe Scully.
"Joe! It's good to see you!" Sonny exclaimed. "That's all I get after all this time?" Joe quipped. "Come 'ere Sonny boy!" The older man opened up his arms and Sonny walked into his embrace. As they hugged, Joe smiled at Brenda over Sonny's shoulder. The men pulled apart and Sonny said, "I'm surprised to see you here." "Yeah well I was in town, and I thought I'd look you up, see how you are. I can see you're doing well!" Brenda smiled since Joe direct the comment to her. "Oh yeah, Joe this is Brenda Barrett. Brenda this is Joe Scully…he's closest I've ever come to a having a father." Brenda and Joe shook hands, and Joe commented, "Brenda, now what's a beauty like you doing with a palooka like Sonny?" "Hey hey now!" Sonny joked. Brenda laughed and responded, "I'm kinda partial to palookas." Joe laughed as well, "smart girl." The three took seats on the sofa and Joe entertained Brenda with stories of Sonny's exploits as a teenager for the next hour or so. Eventually Sonny said, "sweetie, would you mind…" Brenda cut him off, "I know the drill. I'll be upstairs doing homework. It was really nice to meet you Joe." Joe stood with her and took her hand to kiss. "The pleasure was all mine Brenda, believe me!'
The men watched her leave and then sat back down. "Beautiful
girl Sonny," Joe said. "A little young isn't she?" "She's
eighteen Joe." "Like I said, a little young. But hey, who am I to
judge?" "So why are you really here Joe?" Sonny asked. Joe
smiled, "you always were a smart one kid. OK, here's the deal. I think
it's time Frank Smith retired, and you and I are going to make that happen."
