Professional Information and Goals
I am currently a senior teacher candidate at Illinois State University seeking my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. When I was in fourth grade, my mathematics teacher became ill during the middle of the day. The principal took over the class for the rest of the day, but had no idea of what was going on in the class or what to do. He asked the class if any of us knew what we were supposed to be doing. I raised my hand. One thing led to another and I ended up reviewing with the class for the first 10 minutes of the class and then administered the test that we were supposed to take that day (yes, I took it too). From that day, I knew I wanted to teach. I love helping students to learn. I have been blessed with many opportunities to teach throughout my education. In that same year, I was able to teach the class for a full period during students government day. I have tutored my peers throughout high school, including a day where I was able to teach an Algebra I class due to my AP Caluculs teacher becoming ill during the day. I tutored a 7th grade boy at Chiddix Jr. High in Normal, IL as well as a 6th grade boy in Mathematics. I also tutored/mentored an 8th grade boy at Kingsley Jr. High for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars program "Preparing for College Success" and I am tutored a Sophomore boy from Normal Community High School in Normal, IL. Through these many experiences, I have fallen in love with teaching. I can not wait to be able to have my own classroom and help students to learn.
Personal Interests
Along with teaching, I have a passion for my Savior Jesus Christ. I am a member of a ministry group here on campus called Death Resurrection Life where I am on leadership and was recently given the honor of a financial position. I also love to sit outside in the summertime and read a good book. Some of my favorite authors are Fyodor Dostoevsky, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Earnest Hemmingway, and Nicholas Sparks. I also love to watch and play sports. I play softball with my work in the summer and watch NASCAR and the Cubs during their seasons.
NASCAR!
Mark Martin has always been my favorite driver growing up. But, I like all the Roush Racing drivers. |

I also work at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. My office is at the Midwestern Regional Medical Center branch in Zion, IL, although I work with all the hospitals around the country. These include: Southwestern Regional Medical Center in Tulsa, OK and Eastern Regional Medical Center in Philadelphia, PN. We are also building hospitals in Atlanta, GA and Seatle, WA. I love working here because I am working in the fight against cancer. My job is with Patient Accounts where I have the ability to use my passion for Mathematics, but I also volunteer at the same hospital in the Emergency Room.
