Vinyl Discography of Bernard and François Baschet's Structures Sonores

by Ed Maurer

I always want to hear from collectors who have information that would make this document more complete. Many thanks to the people who have contributed information. Without their help, this discography would be woefully incomplete. As it is, it's merely incomplete.

In 1952 brothers Bernard and Francois Baschet began a study of musical instruments, by 1954 they had begun to build their own unique musical sculptures. Francois Baschet was born in Paris in 1920. He was trained by sculptors Emmanuel Auricoste and Hubert Yencesse. His brother, Bernard, was born in Paris in 1917. He studied engineering at the Ecole Centrale and served as the chief of musical research for the French Broadcasting System.8

The definitive English text on the Sculptures Sonores and François Baschet is "Les Sculptures Sonores" by Francois Baschet, publisher Soundworld (UK, 1999). I bought a copy from Trevor Taylor.

The discography is divided into two sections. Part I lists recordings that feature the instruments throughout the entirety of the record. Part II lists records in which the instruments are present, but not the main focus.

For current information about the Baschet's activities, check this out.
