CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is extremely light-touch therapy (the weight of a nickel) which releases tension within the body. CranioSacral Therapy addresses the central nervous system so delicately, that it feels no threat, and allows one to relax. Remember what it was like to be under extreme stress, and then suddenly relax? It felt like tension was melting from the inside out. This is how CranioSacral Therapy is often felt.

It is not necessary to disrobe, and no oils or lotions are required.

The body has rhythms. To test this, I offer this exercize. Lie comfortably for a few minutes, breathing consciously in and out in a relaxed manner. As you inhale, feel the entire body expand, and as you exhale, feel the entire body contract. Follow this rhythm for a few rounds, then, after you exhale, DO NOT INHALE, but you will still feel your boy expand AS IF you had taken a breath, and then contract again, AS IF you were exhaling again. Inhale again in the usual expansion phase.

When you have tension, the rhythms don't rock properly. I look for these areas where the rhythm is off, and gently release the tension until the rhythm resets properly.

We also "induce a stillpoint" which essentially shuts down the Central Nervous System and allows it to reset itself. The rhythms stop during a stillpoint. When the Central Nervous System is ready (anytime from a few seconds to ten minutes), it will resume the body's rhythms. During the stillpoint, the consciousness either "goes away" (spaces out) or "goes someplace" like a peaceful vivid dream. I liken the stillpoint to a sorting session where the CNS sorts through a list of issues and determines which personal issues need attention (keep) and which are no longer worth expending energy on (discard). The result is relaxation, more energy, and a sense of balance and groundedness.

I received my CranioSacral training through the Upledger Institute. I have studied CranioSacral Therapy I and II, and Unwinding Medidians: Applying Accupuncture Principles to CranioSacral Therapy.
