Reiki

Reiki, (pronounced Ray'-key) as rediscovered by Mikao Usui of Japan, is more formally known as "The Usui Method of Natural Healing." The word "Reiki" is a combination of two Japanese words: Rei means "spiritual consciousness" and Ki means "universal life source."

Our physical symptoms of dis-ease are often manifestations of emotional, mental and spiritual issues. Reiki addresses all of these areas. Reiki is a hands-on technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing on all levels. A Reiki treatment feels soothing and relaxing, like a glowing radiance gently permeating your body. Reiki can also be used to build confidence and release addictions.

The Reiki practitioner does not give his/her own energy to the client, but, instead, the energy is drawn from God. I consider a Reiki session a long, silent prayer.

A standard Reiki session lasts about an hour. It is not necessary to disrobe, and no oils or lotions are needed.

Practicing Reiki requires no knowledge of how the body is built (anatomy) or how it operates (physiology), but only the willingness to be a conduit for healing energy. Anyone can be taught to do Reiki on themselves and on others. Reiki Practitioners (professionals) usually expand their knowledge of how the body works, and may incorporate affirmations and other modalities (such as music, stones, crystals, or fragrances) to enhance the experience.

I was trained in Reiki by Edna "Ande" Ryneveld, of Fair Grove, Missouri. My training involved attending at least two classes each of levels I, II, & IIIA, and later co-teaching one class of each of these levels; attunement to four sacred symbols, and the uses of each symbol; 100 documented hours of treatments; the reading of much literature on the subject, and finally, the initiation as a Teaching Master in Reiki IIIB.

I was also attuned and initiated Teaching Master by Mary Oliver-Hall, of Rolla, Missouri, with whom I had shared my knowledge and many hours of group Reiki sessions.
