Having moved from my beloved Pgh 16 years ago I have never stopped being homesick (even though I go back to visit my family a zillion times a year!). Thanks for taking the time to create such wonderful tributes to the places of my "youth" -- Forbes Field and Three Rivers Stadium. Your tribute to "The Gunner" is incredible ('love listening to "Beat'em Bucs!") Your website is the B E S T !!

At the request of Jim Reed, the Cleveland cry baby below, I will leave his post here. It is the finest example of writing I have ever seen by a Browns fan! The Steeler fan you mentioned did a great job if you consider who he had to work with - a Browns fan! They can barely talk let alone spell or type.

Great website! My father used to work at the University of Pittsburgh when The Pirates played at Forbes Field. He became good friends with Mr. Prince and I remember the man well. I had the opportunity to sit in the broadcast booth and watch a game with "The Gunner" at 3 Rivers Stadium, in the 70's. He was a great broadcaster and a very nice man. Thanks for bringing back such great memories!

Thank you so very much for all of the audio/video on the Gunner. My first year following the Pirates was 1970 (7 years old). Hearing Bob's voice today summoned up all those great memories of my youth: turning the Hoover like Maz, basket catches like Bobby, and the wind up at the plate like Wilver Dornell. I was so happy to see that PNC Park has an eatery named in memory of the true voice of the Pirates. In fact, I happened to be at a Bucco's game in Three Rivers the day that Bob Prince passed on. Listening to the static of KDKA from Cincinnati over the past 23 years, I can't wait for the Pirates 2001 season opener here in Cincy...Thanks again for a fun Sunday afternoon. GO BUCS!

Dear Ed: I just wanted to add my voice in thanking you for providing a page with the audio clips of Bob Prince. I am three years older than you and share many of the same experiences. I grew up in North Apollo and listened to the games religiously over KDKA. I remember straining to listen through the static interference on the car radio while on vaction; one catching "Gunner" and the "Possum" late at night from the parking lot of our motel in Ocala, Fla. My dad use to take me to two or three games each year at Forbes Field; one of the first games I remember was when I was sitting in the upper deck in right field in a game where Dale Long hit a home run which landed about three rows in front of me. It was the first of his eight home runs in eight consecutive games. I also remember listening to Harvey Haddix's perfect game and the excitement of that night which is all brought back thought the clip you have preserved. Like many who grew up in Western Pa., I began to think of Bob Prince as part of the family. Many a night I came home from school and went to sleep early so I could wake about about 10:30 p.m. and hear the game broadcast from the West Coast. I moved away from Western Pa. when I left for college and have never returned there to live. By wherever I have lived I always accepted the irration to atmospheric interference to try to pull in KDKA and the Pirate game. As you observed, the Internet broadcasts have been a quantum leap forward and like you, although the Pirates are not easy to root for, they remain in my blood. Your website is terrific and I just wanted to thank you again for the time and effort you put into it. Sincerely, don stewart, Florence, SC

hi ed, jim from hayward writing to say how much i enjoyed hearing the ole gunner's voice again.bob prince was,is and always will be the voice of pirates baseball. the stories of bob prince are legendary around baseball, from diving out of the chase hotel window into the swimming pool,to the day the lady entered the bucs booth at wrigley and uttered some choice expletives to a kdka audience, announcing a fan rab mcgee as a pinch hitter for houston, offering to buy everyone in forbes dinner if stargell hit a hommer only to have wilbur clobber a game winner and have a near riot by the bucs broadcast booth when john q public came to collect, i was priviledged to listen in 72 and 73 to jim woods on a's baseball. the possum was the best second banana in baseball broadcasting. he and bob worked great together. the management at kdka was nuts to let him slip away to the cardinals over 1200 bucks. would love to hear more of jim's work during his buc days if you have the audio. jim from hayward.jamesag55@aol.com

I had never heard Bob Prince's voice before visiting this site. I had certainly heard OF him, but this site was really the most I had ever learned about the gunner. I have created a site that is dedicated to the great voices of the game of baseball (including Bob Prince.) I've created a link to this page on my site. Being from Michigan, and a Tiger fan, I grew up listening to Ernie Harwell so it's great to find a site like this one devoted to another great baseball voice.

This is a great site. I have been to every Steeler home game and every Steeler/Brown game(home or away--even the flag football at the Point stadium in Johnstown) for as long as I can remember. After joining the Marines in '95, I moved to Ca. I missed going to the games, but at least there are a lot of fans there. Though I was too young for the superbowls, your site brought back a lot of great memories. Thank you very much!!!

I love your web page. I haven't had time to read all the info, and I guess I was surprised at all the people who have responded, but I, too am from Western Pa. I live in South Central Pa now, but work in Baltimore. I used to go to Pirate games at Forbes Field when I was young, too. My daughter went to Pitt in 1992, and when we went for Orientation, we visited Forbes Quad. I saw the wall that was left & when we went in the building, our guide showed homeplate & said they left it where it originally was. It was under a glass or plexiglass tile. I told her that wasn't where homeplate was & she said, "Well, you're right, it's really in the men's room & we couldn't show it there, so we moved it". I was pretty ticked off. Remember, Bob Prince's, "Missed it by a gnat's eyelash! or "Close as the fuzz on a tick's ear!"? He was awesome!

This sight has really come together. I look forward to your updates. The Super Bowl links are incredible, but I always like the stuff that happened in Three Rivers (Two Minute Warning). The crowd noise + Myron makes me feel like I'm in PA again. Is it possible to put up more home championship games from the late 70s (vs Houston etc.) in Real Audio. That's a lot to ask, I know. Just an idea. Excellent work!
