Cats appeal to us because they are right here in our house where we can catch them. This vividly distinguishes them from other small mammals, such as the oppossum and the koala, which remain stubbornly outdoors. They also crap responsibly.

One possible dream is to have a pet small enough to live comfortably in an altoids tin. We do not have that dream, but merely point out that it is a possible one.
