Persimmon - Diospiros virginiana - Did you know there are seedless American persimmons? Some noted cultivars of this native plant are: Evelyn, Yates and Szukis (pronounced Sue-kiss). These are larger than the wild species and have a better texture and flavor than the Oriental types.

Pawpaw - Asimina triloba - This small native tree is perfectly hardy and bears clusters of fruit that taste like banana custard. "Picking up pawpaws, put ‘em in a basket, way down yonder in the pawpaw patch". Don’t let this great heritage plant fall by the wayside. Lots of good cultivars: Sunflower, PA Golden, Blue Ridge, and Rebecca.

Kerria japonica A shrub related to roses. Has golden yellow double blooms in Spring. Uncommon (pictured below)

Cercis chinensis A smaller, bushy redbud absolutely covered with a softer hue of flowers. (pictured below)

Senna corymbosa A Mediterranean plant with unique elliptical leaves.  About the size of a dogwood, it blooms prolifically in late summer with bright yellow flowers.
Beautyberry - Callicarpa americana A native small shrub with unbelievable iridescent clusters of purple berries that many birds love. Also have the more rare white form. (pictured below)
