Tamarack Tree
Description: The Tamarack is usually found in swamps. It has light yellowish-brown wood, which is very heavy and durable.  This tree grows 30 to 60 feet tall.  The bark is rough.  The Tamarack is an unusual conifer which loses its needles in the winter. The needles are flat and soft.  The cones are very small.
Discussion: The Tamarack is used for posts, poles, and lumber. 
Distribution: It is found in the northeastern part of the United States and Canada.
