Dorothy's 5th Grade Commencement Speech

My name is Dorothy K(...) As you look upon my fellow fifth graders and the teachers, you may see that we are all butterflies. But we didn't start that way. We all started as caterbpllars before we got to school. Then, whether we started at Phelps Luck, or another school, we grew cocoons. Some kids were afraid to talk to others. Some didn't stop talking.

For some it took a day, for some it took a year, for some, it took up until last week. We slowly came out of our cocoons and all of us up here are butterflies. So you may ask, how did we become butterflies?

By learning how to get along with one another.
By knowing that we can not always get our way.
By learning to control our actions and our voices.
By knowing little kids follow our actions.
By learning to try our hardest and never give up.
By learning winners never quit, and quitters never win.
By learning to help instead of hurt.
By knowing if someone is in need, we should reach out and to help them.
By learning if we try and we really put our heart into it, we will become butterflies.
