I live right in the middle of the Baltimore-Washington corridor with my wonderful husband Steve (he of ScooterNet fame) and my two delightful and amazing daughters, Abby and Dorothy, and our kitten, Ginger. I am not currently employed-for-pay.
I am a geek. I am interested in things, including all the little fiddly bits and how they go together, sometimes to an excessive degree. I recognize and appreciate geekiness in others as well. I have collected much web geekery for my own amusement, inspiration and edification, which I call "Everything Is Source Material" (EISM for short).
I am a gamer, and have been so for well over half my life. A lot of the original content on these pages has to do with role playing games which I have run and/or journalled and/or played in, gaming philosophy and community. Gaming is not only an incredible celebration of geekery, it's also a marvelous creative outlet, and a great opportunity to spend time with friends.
The question of at-home mothers has been politicized enough that I feel the need to explain the choice I've been lucky enough to be able to make. I'm at home with the girls because it is the best solution for our particular family at this particular time. It's a decision I made after having dealt with child care issues, career issues, and the interaction between the two, and it's a decision I made for myself and my family only.
I've been employed at a lot of different places, full-time and part-time, temporary and permanent, over the last 20 years or so. Interesting places I've worked include Grandfather's Garden Center, Dream Wizards, Chesapeake Research Review, National Cancer Institute, Digene, Maryland State Dental Association and Howard Community College.
As you can see, I've done a lot of different things. Not necessarily in the order listed.
I am politically progressive. I am greatly disturbed by the direction that the last several administrations have taken the country in. Therefore, I am politically active. I am a registered member of the Green Party, and sporadically maintain the Howard County Local website and 'blog
Thanks largely to the interest of my daughter, Dorothy, I am on the Board of Directors for O2B2 (Out of the Black Box Theatre Company) I managed props for our production of "Wayward Saints". I was stage manager (and stage mother) for the 2005 "6 Characters in Search of an Author". I am currently running the Company's web site as well.
I also worked on the 2005 "Miracle on 34th Street" with Prince George's Little Theatre, and have helped out in a very minor way with The Rude Mechanicals 2005 production of "A Comedy of Errors".
I'm an associate member of the Columbia United Christian Church but am not, myself, a Christian.
Creativity has always been important to me. I have recently begun writing fiction, and am (slowly) writing my first novel. I am also a student of pottery and of yarn work, and I am beginning to develop some skill in both of them. I tinker around with beading. I also enjoy gardening, but am not particularly good at it.
To be honest, I am terribly out of shape. I'm trying to take better care of myself, eat healthier, and get more excercise. Because I'm a geek, I'm better motivated if I track and analyze what I'm doing, which is why I've put up my 'Fat Lady On Bike' (F.L.O.B.) Page. Enjoy.
I am in the ( process of self-examination which I think of as discovering my religion and defining my morality. If you're curious about this (or other potentially controversial writings) feel free to look at my rants pages (above).
