Class Poem
It's Only the Rest of Our Lives
(By Classmate: Sally Ricks Magallanes)
This moment is unique
Taken from seconds in eternity
We're reconnecting, getting to know
Friends that we never knew
So many yesterdays come and gone
From a time when we were just children
Times that seemed easier, but still carried pain
We thought we had the rest of our lives
But what is a day in the life
Of each person, stranger or friend
No one can walk in another's shoes
So we carry on the best that we can
Yes, it's only the rest of our lives
That we are given everyday
No one knows what lies ahead
So cherish this moment in time
If you can believe, hold on to achieve
That nothing happens by chance
Meeting someone, connecting so true
Must be more than circumstance
Years and days can just flash by
Sometimes we just wonder why
Does life have true meaning
And where is the rest of our life
So as we look ahead
To a special autumn day
There's anticipation and trepidation
To meet those lost and now found
We'll remember people now gone
Left us too soon for eternity
Life is still a gift, memories are sweet
As we carve out a moment
That's part of the rest of our lives
Each day, every second
We're living the rest of our lives
