Public Awareness Campaign

Task: Working in groups, you will first identify a public awareness issue in your lives that you would like to address. After the issue is decided upon, you will develop three DTP products (at least one must be a brochure) that inform and educate the public about you chosen topic.

Some examples of informing and educating the public about different issues can be found here:

Tattoos & Makeup | Cell Phones | Depression | Eating Disorders |

Project Schedule - Breakdown of activities for the project.

Step 1 - Brainstorming and Narrowing Your Choices
  • Meet in groups and brainstorm eight to ten relevant issues of today, that effect you and your peers. Make sure someone in the group is taking notes, and keeps track of all your ideas.
  • As a group discuss each one and decide on your top two choices. Underline and numbers your top two choices, and include a brief explanation of why you choose those two.
  • Meet with the teacher to decide on your final choice. (Note: each subject will be used only once per class. In case of two groups wanting the same subject, the group with the more clearly reasoned explanation, as decided by the teacher, will have first choice.)

Step 2 - Design three DTP Products

    • Design three DTP products, at least one of which is a two sided brochure, to use in a Public Awareness campaign about your subject.
    • One your design sheets include a brief sketch of the layout, indicating where you will be putting your content, graphics, and any call outs or decorative items such as drop caps. Indicate on each design who will be working on the product from your group. (A two sided brochure will probably have at least two people working on it, where a button or post card will probably only use one person.).
    • If you decide to use a single logo throughout, indicate that on your design sheets.
    • Using Microsoft Word, compose, spell check and proof read the content you will be including.
    • Attach the Word document to the back of your design sheet, and meet with the teacher for approval.

Step 3 - Construct your DTP Products

  • As you construct your DTP products, use the grading rubrics for each type of product as a checklist for your work.
  • You may use any application that you are familiar with such as Word, In-Design, Photoshop , and Illustrator. You may not us MS Publisher for this assignment.
  • Be sure to have your partners check your product for spelling , grammar, and punctuation.
