Region 3 & 5 Conference July 16 - 19, 2009 at Radisson Hotel Pittsburgh Green Tree
Regional Conference is quickly approaching, and we are excited by the opportunity to come together. Our workshop presenters, our talented musicians, our worship participants and our preachers have all been working diligently to bring you the best that MCC has to offer. We will also be celebrating the seventeen-year leadership ministry of Rev. Elder Arlene Ackerman and want to make this an event she will remember. Conferences provide us with a unique opportunity to learn, celebrate and build community. We have some of the most thought-provoking and challenging workshops, focusing on all aspects of church life and ministry. These are balanced with clergy and lay training, as well as time for students and those considering a career in ministry. There will be three very different evening events: a concert with Marsha Stevens and special guests; a one-person play featuring Peterson Toscano entitled "Transfigurations--Transgressing Gender in the Bible"; and a talent-filled evening with all of you in celebration of Rev. Elder Arlene Ackerman.
The Region 3/5 Conference is the one denominational conference this year, and it is happening because of you and your commitment to the ministry of MCC. It will be spectacular. During our last round of regional conferences, the Region 3/5 Conference was the largest and was filled with people saying "this is amazing." We hope to not only recreate that experience but strengthen and expand it. Let's live our faith "out loud." You can register for the conference online at http://www.regonline.com/region3_5. (Early registration deadline is June 16.)
You can register for the host hotel online at http://www.radisson.com/pittsburghpa_greentree, or you can call 1-800-333-3333. (Group code: MCC09. Hotel reservation deadline is June 24.)
To learn more about the conference, visit our website: http://www.mccchurch.org/region3&5conference.
We are asking that if you are planning to attend, please register within the next ten days. This will help us tremendously with some of our preparations. Together, let's make this the best conference MCC has ever seen. Conferences excel because of you, so join us in Pittsburgh and be "OutFitted for Ministry."
Blessings, Rev. Elder Diane Fisher, Rev. Jennifer Glass, Jason O'Neill, Jennifer Justice and Carlos Chavez

Paulette V. Armstead Speaks at MCCB Services
Born and raised in Florida, at the age of 11, Paulette was baptized in the AME church. In her faith journey, she spent time in several other denominations, i.e., such as Pentecostalism, Presbyterianism, Baptist etc. At age 31, she received God's call to enter professional ministry. However, she delayed answering the call. Instead, she pursued other professional careers and worked as a police officer, college professor and then lawyer. In 1999, because of her sexuality, she was forced out of the Baptist church. This event led to a two-fold blessing. First, she discovered UFMCC. Second, it became clear to her that she was called to a special ministry, i.e. to minister primarily to LGBTQI persons.
In May 2008, Paulette graduated from Wesley Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. She has been approved for ordination by UFMCC. Her ministry will be in the areas of Christian education, conflict resolution and pastoral care. Her vision is to share God's inclusive love with other LGBTQI persons so that they too can live full, abundant and healthy lives.
