![]() | Chris Johnson started his musical career at fourteen years of age, performing on bass and guitar at county fairs, parades and churches. His grandfather ran a successful band in the 50's and 60's: Johnny Jay and The Elites. Proudly hanging on the wall at Chris' house is his first bass guitar, purchased by Johnny Jay in the late 60's. After high school, he spent 6 years backing up regional star Janie Miller and her Tribute to Patsy Cline. Traveling the country and playing countless fairs and festival, they also maintained a solid urban following. Chris' interest in blues led to working with many top acts throughout the 90's. He has been chosen by national acts: Lamont Cranston, Reverend Raven and the Chain-smoking Alter Boys, Tom Hunter, Paul Lagos, The Fabulous Barking Ducks, John Beach, Mojo Buford, Joe T Cook and the Longshots, and Renee Austin as well as top local bands: Joel Johnson, James Cornbread Harris, Slim Hippos, Lonnie Knight, and Dan Lund. He has also worked with internationally known musicians: Jack McDuff, Dave Ray, Lonnie Brooks and Howard Levy. Chris writes many of the bands songs. When not playing with his kids or playing with the band, he's most often found at the piano with paper and a pencil. A wide range of blues influences and a deep appreciation of New Orleans grooves can be heard in the tunes he writes. |
