The Electric Nixon

After reading an online journal of Roger Rockwell and his cross country journey on a Yamaha
Zuma scooter, my brain got working.

I keep thinking I have to do something big and exciting that not too many people would ever get
the chance to do. For some time I have thought of the possibility of riding a
Yamaha YSR cross country, but my knees would likely not make it past the first
day on one. Roger's page got me thinking of just how possible it is.

So, after many e-mails back and forth, I got my brother on the bandwagon and we got to brainstorming how to make this a reality. I had an '83 Yamaha RX50, but would like to do the trip on something newer and a laid out a little better for the journey. After looking at the current offerings, the Honda Ruckus jumps out as my first choice. Nice layout, 4-stroke, and the perfect look for such a crazy undertaking. Camo would be best, to give it a kind of Mad Max feel.

Not wanting to spend $4K on two of them, we are currently working on ideas of how to get them
donated. We would like to align this ride with a charity and solicit donations prior to the run and along the trip. The current front runner is the Ride For Kids Foundation, which benefits pediatric brain tumor research. I will be drafting a letter to send to them in the near future, as well as one for
possible donors of the bikes, supplies and money for he charity that will allow us to align themselves with us.

A timeline has not been set, but at this point I am thinking the spring or fall of whatever year I can get bikes figured out. This will give us the time necessary to secure sponsors, and to properly promote the trip so as to be of the biggest benefit to the charity possible. The plan is to complete the trip in 10 days or less. Most likely the journey will be from the East coast to the West, but that is open for change.
