Ellen Redman, Flutist

 


At Boxwood 2006

Ellen Redman, flutist, has established herself in both solo and orchestral roles. She received her training with renowned teachers and performers such as John Krell, Carol Wincenc, Harvey Sollberger and Thomas Nyfenger. She has been the piccoloist with the Springfield (MA) Symphony since 1985 and has twice appeared with them as soloist. Miss Redman has also concertized extensively in Italy, including appearances in Rome at both the American and British Academies, the American Embassy and the Vatican. She has been the recipient of several honors and awards, including being a finalist in the National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition, and a winner of both the New York Flute Club Young Artist Competition and the WFLN (Philadelphia) Young Artist Competition.

Miss Redman resides in Westfield, Massachusetts where she does free-lance work with various ensembles, including the Boston Symphony, Boston Classical Orchestra, New Hampshire Symphony and the Nashua Symphony. She is an Instructor of Flute at Smith College in Northampton, MA, Deerfield Academy, and also has a thriving private teaching studio. As an enthusiastic student of the Irish Flute, she recently qualified to compete in the 2006 All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Letterkenny, Ireland.  Miss Redman is the founder and director of The Wailing Banshees at Smith College and can be heard at sessions all around New England.

Trotwood Border Terriers came into being in May of 2003 with the first litter of Ch. Redgate's Mocca Surprise (Spring), sired by Ch. Oldstone Tenor.  Since then, Spring has produced 4 champions, with others currently following in their footsteps.
