What is the
difference between the C-2500L and the newer C-3030Z?
| C-2500L
(2.5 Megapixel) |
C-3030Z
(3.3 Megapixel) |
| Prosumer SLR |
Consumer Range-Finder |

| Shutter speed:

Shutter speed:
1/800 - 16 sec. |
| Less noise due to larger
pixel wells; true color with less fringing |
Interlaced CCD's tend to
be a little noisier with a little bit of color fringing in some cases |
| TruePic Technology
(allows the image to have all pixel information at all resolutions) |
Uses a more typical
algorithm |
| Can use both SmartMedia
& CompactFlash Type I cards |
Can use SmartMedia card
only |
| Both cameras
can be expected to produce excellent results, but the C-2500L may
outperform the C-3030Z in some areas and vice versa (the C-3030Z has
novelty extras such as movie mode, B&W and sepia tone.) The C-2500L
is a more expensive camera to build offering many unique technical
features and advances. |
Where
on the web can I find the best price for the C-2500L?
Go to CNET
Shopper, Pricescan, Price Grabber or Pricewatch
for a listing of prices from various web dealers. In addition, Camera
Shop Postings website offers reader-contributed reports and complaints on various
mail-order camera stores. Also, check out ResellerRatings.com
for user evaluations of online computer hardware vendors.
What are some of the best
online sites for ordering the C-2500L and various accessories?
Do I
need to send in the warranty card?
No, but be sure to save your original
receipt showing your camera purchase and the warranty card which has your
camera's serial number recorded on it.
Olympus has recently added a Camera
Registration Page to their website.
If you go to the Olympus
Site for camera registration,
you can find it on the left hand side of the page under Online Support there is
a link to the Camera Registration Page for online registration.
Can the C-2500L use Type II (Microdrive) CompactFlash Cards?
The camera cannot use Type II CompactFlash cards, only Type I cards which
meet the CFA standard. When using a cf card be sure to format the card
with the Camedia C-2500L before using it.
What
type of batteries does the camera use?
The camera ships with four NiMH batteries
and an Olympus charger. NiCD batteries can also be used. Manganese and lithium
batteries cannot be used as they may overheat and damage the camera.
What are the specs on the Olympus AC Adapter?
The Olympus AC Adapter, model #C-7AU has the following specs: Input:
AC120V 50/60Hz 0.3A, Output: DC6.5v 2A, (-)--Co--(+)
Which
filters does Olympus recommend for use with the C-2500L?
Olympus recommends using a 43mm-55mm step-up ring with the following
Olympus filters:
 | Circular Polarizer #108139 |
 | ND2 (neutral density) #108147 |
 | ND4 (neutral density) #108148 |
 | Skylight 1A #108142 |
 | UV Haze L39C #108140
Other filters not manufactured by Olympus which can be used (55mm size): |
 | Star Cross 4x & 6x |
 | Close-up +1, +2, & +4 |
 | Soft Focus
Olympus 43mm-55mm step-up ring #200527 |
Where
can I find a ring flash for use with the C-2500L for taking intraoral dental
photographs?
d-store
now offers dental imaging solutions for professionals interested in taking
intraoral photographs with the C-2500L. They offer modified slave ring
flash units as well as step-up rings, the Olympus
B-Macro H.Q. Converter Lens with flash diffuser, and other accessories necessary for taking
better intraoral photographs. You
need to be aware that it will take a lot of practice when using the ring flash
in order to achieve acceptable pictures.
Dicom
Imaging Systems also offers the C-2500L as well as the same modified ring
flash and camera supplies but at a much greater cost. They also offer plug-in
programs that will
show the effects of bleaching and cosmetic changes to the patient. They
are presently developing a plug-in that will allow digital radiographs to be
used in the imaging program (bypassing the program altogether.)
Can I use a monocular with the C-2500L?
No. The camera does not work well with any monoculars presently on the
market; severe vignetting occurs. Part of the problem appears to be the
larger size of the CCD used in the C-2500L.
Can I
use EagleEye's OpticZoom 5X lens with the C-2500L?
At this time, the company is recommending that you defer your purchase until
they have completed their testing of the lens with the C-2500L; it appears to
cause vignetting. They will post sample pictures on their website
so that you will know the exact amount of vignetting produced by this lens.
Can I perform near infrared photography techniques with
the C-2500L?
Olympus has stated that the 2500 does not have an IR filter over the CCD,
which means near infrared photography techniques can be performed with the
proper filters. Several members of the C-2500L
email discussion group are experimenting with the Hoya Infrared R72 filter
using manual focus and 2-second exposures, then bringing their photos into
Photoshop for post processing. Further
information on near IR technique.
