I am fortunate enough to live in a community on a river with a
community boat club and marina several hundred feet from my
doorstep. The down side is that the river we are on has a large
amount of weekend traffic, and the wakes from power craft can really
dish out a beating on your poor boat. After surveying a number of
things done by others on our pier and pricing out systems in marine
catalogs, I decided something had to be done for less. A trip up
to the discount autoparts store found heavy duty rubber tie down straps
2 in a pack for $1.99. I think the rest can best be shown in the
photo below. Basically, tie a couple bowlines
(so you can get them out some day, won't slip, etc.) so that the
shock ties do most of the work, and by the time the ties are to full
extent the energy is absorbed. I call them $3.00 ties because I
like to tripple up the ties per mooring line. Are they stainless?
Heck no. Do I got several seasons out of a set? You bet!
