Carousel

The carousel required the cooperative efforts of the scene shop,
paint shop and prop shop. The scene shop built the carousel itself
and designed it so that it could break down into eight pieces during
a 45 second scene shift. I was responsible for building six full
size, load bearing carousel horses.
The rough shape and details were
carved with a variety of tools: the
reciprocating saw was most effective
to obtain the rough shape, while a hot
knife and rasp were used to carve the
details. The final shape was then coated
with a mixture of paint and glue, and
three layers of cheese cloth., and then
were painted.
