Thursday, January 22, 2004 Jovialdana STILL hasn't posted so the jovialfamily will have to deal with my eventless postings for now. I'm back in MI and following through with gram's request that I resolve to post at least once a week. So far we've been below freezing but holding steady in the double digits. I'm trying to work out once a day and making pouty faces to make my pushover boyfriend go to a salsa class with me. If things go well he might even make my year and take me dancing for Valentine's Day. I've never had a boyfriend for Valentine's Day. It always kind of sucked how I'd break up with someone right before or was just plain unappreciated for the wonderful person I can be when I feel like it. We got a cat!!! He's so cute and playful. Three months old and very vocal, which is nice unless we're tying to sleep. Luckily he likes Chris more and tends to paw at his face while I dream into oblivion. We've gon through Gatito, Pierre and Petey, and Chris just decided on kitty-man, so if anyone else has suggestions I'm ready to hear them. Laters to the jovialposse. 10:13 AM | Wednesday, January 14, 2004 How long has it been now? 4 whole days? Unbelievable. Time flies with the fam. Chris already had to go home for work, and I've been suffering from some serious withdrawel. I've realized one thing: I hate Michigan. It's not the people, but pretty everything else is rather hellish compared to my neck of the woods. No offense to other mid-westerners like auntie lo, who I know for a fact would already be in California if it were possible. She just supports my case. Chris and I ate at New Star and Taco Time, went on a tour of the Seattle Underground, and took a ferry ride to Bremerton to visit Hood Canal and the Naval Base with the 'rents. Chris found a real live oyster. It was stupendous and fishy. Now I'm wishing we had taken a picture but at the moment it wasn't digi-cam worthy. As you already know we had a dinner with the 'rents, Jon and Dana. It looks like today has nothing on the agenda. I need to work out or go for a walk. Mom is reluctant to walk because it's raining and Dad's already working out so I'll go alone later if need be. 9:39 AM | Thursday, January 08, 2004 We're going to Seattle tomorrow! This is very exciting stuff and the timing couldn't be better--the temperature hasn't gotten above freezing for about a week and I'm ready for a marine climate--although from what I hear, Seattle's going to break some records for snowfall this year. Normally I'd be excited about it but not when I'm taking a break from Michigan. I ventured into downtown Detroit on my own for the first time this morning. I had to get to the Federal Building to take a test and since I was too anxious to get enough sleep in the first place, the whole day has been loser-friendly. It's been good in nice ways. Chris and I worked out and used our Christmas gift certificate for an italian place right next to the club. What I mean is just that I've been real down on myself today in particular. A week with the fam is just what the doctor ordered. 5:13 PM | Sunday, January 04, 2004 I threw up twice yesterday and even after a full night's sleep on an empty stomach, I'm still a little queasy. Notice: NEVER EVER EAT AT UNO's CHICAGO GRILL. Not only did I get food poisening, but the service was hurrendous. We didn't leave one cent's worth of a tip. I suppose the food was good while we ate it. Maybe I should demand our money back and eat at a GREAT place here called Don Pablos. Yum. So yesterday was really bad and today I guess you could say I'm recovering. That's all for now. 12:13 PM | Friday, January 02, 2004 Hopefully by February Chris and I will have our very own computer. Until then I will try to make it to the library at least once a week and post. It's the very least I can do for my beloved grandma, who requested frequent postings as a New Year's resolution. Among my other resolutions are to read a Christian daily devotional by Oswald Chamers ("My Utmost for His Highest", it's pretty famous among Bible-beaters like myself) every day, and to eat better. I've already got the working out thing well underway--I'm glad I started in November so I didn't overwhelm myself with the New Year thing. Like Dana said, if it's really important you'd probably get on with it immediately. Today my accomplishment with the eating thing was opening a can of Stagg chili (really good if you like spicey) and immediately putting one half of the can in a Ziploc container and storing in the fridge. This way I only eat one serving! Yay me. . . if I ever read my own postings I'd feel like a loser for things that make me feel accomplished. I ate my chili my newfound obsession, Vlasic pickle spears. I have an idea!! How many brands/companies can I endorse in one posting?! It's 2:40pm and I'm already hungry, but as Grandma would say, hunger is the best sauce. We got a gift certificate for Outback Steakhouse (that's endorsement #4!) and since Chris gets tomorrow off, we might use it for our date night and make it really special with dinner on top of a movie. We've been planning to see the last Lord of the Rings since it came out. I prepped Chris by renting the first two so we could better make connections between the three. Christmas was exciting. It's an all-out deal at Chris's house. So much so that you could plan the rest of the season's budget around the gifts. I think that you return 70% of the gifts, on average. I did get some stuff that I had my eye on but would never buy for myself (I consider this to be the essence of the the word "gift): knee-high leather boots--with a 3-inch heel, a charm bracelet, and a beautiful necklace from my sweetie (which I have since lost but hope to find someday). Chris's mom is like my own in the sense that she wraps everything she buys come December just to have more to unwrap/use up all the wrapping paper. Ironically, I could really use some dental floss at home (don't worry if you don't get it, it's a family thing). Christmas evening most of the gang was at Bill's watching Bad Boys II and drinking Crown Royal with Coca-Cola (just working the endorsement thing). Most recent was New Year's Eve. Buffalo wings, Jack Daniel's Chicken and chips over a Scott & Lisa's. We put the kids to bed early so we could watch some movies without worrying about their innocent eyes, and Chris and I went home early because he had to work the next day, pobrecito. In fact, even today is his day off, but he wanted to work overtime so we have some pocket money for Seattle. I can't wait! 11:53 AM | |
