Sooo Entertaining! Thursday, April 29, 2004 I think Dana and Sarah's posts are always sooo entertaining! My my, we can only imagine what happens when the two most innovative of our bloggers come together in The Lou! I'm not quite so imaginative as to post everyday, but I could probably think of something if I tried. I pledge that if I ever get to the point where I own a computer, I will try to post at least weekly (wait, wasn't that my New Year's resolution? Sorry, Grandma). I'll write about the Starbucks crew. Too cool for school and, in the words of my store manager, "fantabulous"! I'm not so naive as to thing that their coolness will wear on me after awhile, but in such a high-stress environment I've already seen some outbursts and am pretty sure I can handle it. We all know I've been trained for high-stress stuff and one asst. manager already complimented me on how impressed she was with my ability to remain calm. AND, a very high-up individual (regional manager, perhaps), thought I looked "sharp" an noticed my participation in Earth Day (helped to plant over 900 dogwood trees) and the fact that I showed up early for work. It was actually just a fluke but very cool nonetheless. Good to get noticed when it counts. I'm an expert at Frappucinos and Iced Teas and have a good handle at the register, but the espresso bar is sort of freaking me out. Like the difference between a "dry" and "bone dry" cappucino. FIRST, you have to know how to interpret the symbols written on the cup. SECOND, you have to make sure that the espresso stands for no more than 10 seconds before mixing it (otherwise it "goes bad" but I haven't figured out what makes it bad). Finally, you have to make the drink. Okay, it sounds easy but it's NOT. At least not yet. I've had alot of encouragement and I'm sure I will do fine in time. I am at Dana's place while she is away. It is late but I have strict instructions not to sleep here so I must leave soon. I am stealing her juice because it is already past the freshness date. The 'rents are in socal so it's just me and the cat and she's much more friendly when the house is empty. She fakes friendliness to make sure we come back to feed her. I've been letting her stay in at night and mom and dad are gonna kill me for it. She was so well trained. I've been doing well with my alone time. Went to a friend's birthday party, finally saw "Big Fish" with Leo and Karen last night, and am going to wash a car with friend from work tomorrow. I am presently "borrowing" several DVD's from Dana's collection along with the juice to keep me busy. I don't work tomorrow and should catch up. Love to all. Laters. 11:25 PM | BaristaThursday, April 15, 2004 I have officially been hired as a Barista with Starbucks! I'm so in love with my little green apron that I have made an effort not to wear it while I'm not working. I haven't even learned how to make drinks yet but I don't mind basking in the glow of my new-found employment. Granted, I'm a barista and make little more than minimum wage, but this is a fantastic company and I plan to stay with them for a long time. My co-workers are all friendly (it's kind of a job requirement) and that's important with the trailer-like workspace behind the counter, and my manager is entirely approachable. Dana acknowledged the passing of great-aunt Kate, and I also wanted to acknowledge it. Aunt Kate was ready and praying for this, and we all agree that she is in a better place now and is remembered as the wonderful woman with so many different roles. For me, she was the older sis of my grandma, and for my mom and her siblings, she was a second mother. She was also a mother and a loving wife. The picture on Dana's webiste is fitting. The simle on Kate's face is so sweet. 10:28 AM | Way Too IndulgentThursday, April 08, 2004 I was way too indulgent with my Lifetime Fitness membership back in Michigan. Still, it's no excuse for failing to have a halfway decent workout in over a month. My dad went to great lengths to get me a great pay plan for 24-Hour-Fitness, since he's been a member for so long. I'm hoping to get back into a good routine swiftly. Apparantly they have one class dedicated especially to abs, which is my main problem area...love handles, spare tire etc. Summer will be here before we know it! Better leave now if I want to make to my class. I hope to write a more extensive update soon. Let's all think good thoughts for Dana, who's working despite her aches and pains. 10:31 AM | |
