Snow Day! Tuesday, November 28, 2006 As I summoned the will to roll out of bed this morning, I listened to the list of schools that are either closed or running late due to the snowfall last night. I may not be a student anymore, but I couldn't help listening with some anticipation, wondering if my former school district would have any closures. Turns out that Mercer Island is business as usual this morning. How I miss snow days. My anti-lock brakes did their stuff as I crossed an icy over pass on the way to work, and it took me a little longer to get to my freeway on ramp due to truck that was either stalled or in an accident. I had to snake my way around a tow truck that had arrived on the scene. Other than that, the drive was a non-event and I got here early, like I always do. Darrnell just sat down at his desk. He lives south of here, just like me, and I'm wondering if those who live north will be able to make it. Places like Silver Lake, Everett and Marysville (for those of you who know the area) all had closures this morning. If they don't come in it will mean more business for me, but I will also be embittered because I had no excuse to stay home and sleep in. I have a sore throat anyway. Talking on the phone will be somewhat unpleasant today. If it weren't for the snow and the intense fear I have of malls this time of year, I would have gone out yesterday to buy some new boots and/or a pair of colorful goloshes. I don't know if I've ever owned galoshes and I wonder if they still sell the kind that were so popular when I was in high school. I left the house twice yesterday: first to go with Megan to her church and then to go to mine. Megan took me out for pho and egg rolls, and there couldn't have been a more perfect remedy to combat the cold weather. Got to love Megan. I'm thoroughly convinced that we are on parallel paths in life. She's a few years older than me, but I'm in the same place, emotionally, professionally and spiritually, as she was at 27. I hope I progress the way she has. I've discovered that four people have called in sick today. I'm sure that the majority would have claimed that the snowfall was too dangerous for driving, but Jodi came all the way from Silver Lake so that's not gonna fly--not to mention she's sick too and will need to leave early today. I wish I could go home. I feel blah. Blah blah blah, crap crap crap (that's a jovialquote). 10:53 AM | |
