A White Christmas

I had a lobectomy on October 30th. This means that I had a tumor on my thyroid that had to be removed. So far it appears that the surgery was a success, and the tumor was also found benign and that's the best anyone can hope for. Unfortunatley, my voice is extremely weak after the surgery and isn't getting much better. It seemed to be getting stronger for awhile, and once I felt physically well enough I told my manager that I could come back to work under restricted hours until my voice was back to normal. I don't know if it's being back at work but I've hit a plateau. It was fun for awhile, but lately when I hang out with friends, we either have to go somewhere very quiet or they have to do all the talking. I went to a few parties with Andy last week, and every time someone tried to make conversation with me and couldn't hear me, he had to explain why. There's nothing I can do at the moment. It's only been two and a half weeks since the surgery and I was told that this could take four to eight weeks to get better.

In other news, we have no heat at work and they're forecasting snow in some areas this week. Apparantly the fan in the heating shaft is broken and until it gets fixed they've brought in personal electric heaters for every station except mine. I have a special printer that used two outlets so I don't have an open one for the heater. I already have bad circulation--it feels like my feet are falling asleep. Happy Thanksgiving.

Andy is my favorite thing right now. He came to the office with a dozen roses last Friday and totally made my day. That same night we went to a party organized by my girlfriends and me. Alayna hosted the party and it was announced after everyone arrived that the party was for the guys, just to show them how much we appreciated them. Alayna created little gift boxes with Scripture verses for all of them and the rest of us created an enormous menu. We let the guys serve themselves first, which was against the grain and the best gesture to show that we love them and care about them. Andy said it was the best time he's spent with me.

Strawberry salad has decidedly become my trademark for these get-togethers. I've made it at least three times and it was requested that I bring it to Thanksgiving dinner (Andy and I were invited to Megan's for Thanksgiving) and Andy also wants me to make it when we go the Minneapolis to impress his Mom. The salad is becoming expensive now that strawberries aren't in season anymore. Did I mention before now that I was going to Minneapolis for Christmas? I haven't bought the tickets yet but it's been so long since I've done any holiday travel that my eyes almost popped when I saw how much they're going to cost. It'll be worth it though. Seven full days of vacation and I'm actually going somewhere! It's been awhile. Alayna and I are also planning a trip to California and March and that will probably eat up the rest of the vacation days I've been saving up for so long.
