(Sources of knowledge for the Seventh Age)

I put together this page to provide links to sites I've found helpful in researching Tolkien's work. Because ff.net strips even partial URLs from stories, it has become impossible to give proper credit to these sites.

Note: Links verified 04/22/2007. In two cases, I've linked to the Wayback archive because the page no longer exists. I think most of the essays are in the archive, but if you can't find something, contact me at erunyauve at comcast.net - I've saved a lot to disk.

  • Ardalambion - This is the premiere source for information on Tolkien's languages.

  • Fellowship of the Word-smiths - This is another excellent language site. Among other features, it offers extensive analysis of Tolkien's languages as they are used in Peter Jackson's movies and on the accompanying soundtracks.

  • Lalaith's Middle-earth Science Pages - This site has a staggering amount of information on the Men of Middle-earth, with references to the primary source material. It also includes the best source for Tolkien's languages devised for Men.

  • Tolkien and Middle-earth topic - MERP is the new home of Michael Martinez' essays on Middle-earth. Call him a Tolkien detective - I don't always agree with his conclusions, but his musings on Tolkien's world often reveal startling and novel approaches to the text.

  • From pointy ears to Grima's tears: Tolkien Investigations - This is a small site with beautifully-researched and well-written essays on Tolkien's mythology.

  • J.R.R. Tolkien and Middle-earth Articles - Suite101.com - for Michael Martinez' older essays, see MERP link above.

  • Tolkien - Hiswelókë - Le Dragon de Brume - Don't be scared off by the index page in French! Click on the 'Sindarin' tab or 'Le Dictionnaire Sindarin'. There are English, French and German versions and various formats for online use or download. This dictionary is a labor of love. Although it lacks proper names of persons and places, it is otherwise comprehensive and includes etymological and source text information.
