A 10 minute interview with two Electrical / Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity sufferers, talking about their condition and how they live with it in today's technologically driven society.  Also includes a section talking to Professor Olle Johansson about how ES is viewed in Sweden.  According to the Swedish government, more than 3% of Swedes are now recognised to suffer with Electrical Hypersensitivity, which translates to more than 200,000 people within the country.  Brian Stein, Chief Executive of a midlands food company, and Per Segerback, an ex-mobile phone company employee from Sweden, talk frankly about how ES has affected their lives and the constraints that it forces them to live under.  Both were originally heavy mobile phone users for their work, and both had to give them up along with many other technological comforts that we take for granted.  Brian Stein has had to remove all electronic items from his office and home, and Per Segerback has to live in remote woodlands to minimise the pain and discomfort that he experiences when exposed to "electrosmog".

From the Introduction
"Interaction mechanisms that underlie the health and biological effects of electromagnetic fields (EMF) on humans have been studied by many authors.[1,2,3,4,5,6]  This subject was reviewed recently at the 1990 spring meeting of the American Physical Society .[7] Choy et. al.[8] investigated individuals with multiple sensitivities who reported reactions to various types of electrical equipment, including power lines, electronic office equipment such as typewriters and computer terminals, video display terminals, household appliances (such as hair dryers), and fluorescent lights.  This paper presents preliminary data on electromagnetic field tests using a square wave generator to evaluate the EMF sensitivity of patients reporting such sensitivities under environmentally controlled and monitored conditions."

In Black and White discloses how electro-hypersensitives (EHS), in spite of the Swedish official disability acceptance, still are confronted with distrust from physicians, healthcare, social insurance institutions and authorities. Nevertheless, the witnesses express a great strength and hope for the future and present a growing understanding from work-life and society. Several of the EHS reporting their experiences are white-collar workers within education, engineering, IT and telecom.

The EHS experiences now being published in English and accepted for a poster presentation at the WHO-seminar is an important step to share the “Swedish Experience” with the growing number of EHS in the “wireless society” world-wide.  The book is also intended for politicians, researchers and healthcare authorities in all countries where Electro Hypersensitivity is still a questioned disability.

Evidence that Electromagnetic Radiation is Genotoxic : The implications for the epidemiology of cancer and cardiac, neurological and reproductive effects

From the Introduction
"This paper attempts to follow basic classical scientific principles to counter the dismissive and biased approach of industry and many government and international authorities, including the WHO and ICNIRP.  The principles found to be important are that biology reveals that brains, hearts and cells use electromagnetic signals, charged ions, voltage-gated ion channels, ion regulated gap junctions, all of which can be interfered with by external electromagnetic fields in subtle but vital ways in relation to health.  A primary physical principle of resonant absorption explains why external and internal signals that share the same part of the spectrum, resonantly exchange energy at levels well below the thermal threshold. (...)  Laboratory experiments provide evidence of effects.  Replicated and/or extended studies provided confirmation and establish an effect.  Multiple studies confirm and strengthen the cause and effect relationship.  In assessing genotoxicity, any evidence of genetic damage, cell death or neoplastic transformation is evidence of genotoxicity."

Abstract
"The aim of this study is to present the results of three years of experimental work on the interaction of water samples with passive resonant circuits.  We shall finally attempt a physical justification for the changes that are produced in the water sample.  Permanent changes in the physico-chemical properties of a water sample were obtained by exposing it to a very simple device based on an RCL passive resonator.  We detected these changes by means of a microcalorimetric (heat-of-mixing) procedure that had previously been applied to homeopathic solutions.  Most experiments (60 samples) showed an exothermic heat excess relative to the reference water.  All the microcalorimetric titration curves from these measurements on the treated water samples looked alike from a qualitative point of view and all of them displayed a break point at the same test solution concentration.  We performed pH measurements during about half the total number of tests and observed an increase of the pH value (i.e., toward basic) in all but three of the exposed samples."

Frequency and Coherence in Water and Living Systems

Summary of Research Results
"Coherent frequencies in living systems may be anywhere in the electromagnetic spectrum from millihertz to gigahertz and beyond.  Coherent frequencies also can be measured in most chemicals containing traces of water."

"Work with electrically hypersensitive patients has given the writer an insight into the extremes of sensitivity of which living systems are capable as evidenced when their regulatory control mechanisms fail.  Frequency is the relevant parameter.  Identical reactions can be triggered in a patient by chemical means and neutralised electrically, or triggered electrically and neutralised chemically; the autonomic nervous system appears to be the first system involved.  Chemical toxicity in these patients and also in in vitro cultured cells is manifest through the appearance of the chemicals’ frequency signatures in the living systems’ frequency imprints.  It has been possible to re-program the frequency imprints of a cell culture and have these transmitted to the daughter cells."

Abstract
Objective: To review the progress the author has made over the past 5 years in
understanding coherence effects in water and living systems using
             quantum mechanical models.
Background: The implications of existing theoretical work on water are discussed.
Methods: Available techniques for the measurement of frequencies imprinted in
             water are described or referenced.
Results: The importance of frequency is shown in respect of the understanding
of the mechanisms of homoeopathy, acupuncture and how bioinformation may be
stored in water and also in respect of chemical and electrical sensitivities
or hypersensitivities; hypersensitivity being that degree of sensitivity that
             seriously interferes with normal functioning.
Conclusion: Water and living systems have macroscopic quantum properties that can give rise
to a memory for frequencies, long-range effects, and entanglement between separated
             systems.

Comments
This may be of interest since it appears mercury amalgam / thimerisol neurotoxicity features prominently in many ES etiologies.  From this study, it appears as though people with the Apolipoprotein E epsilon-4 gene allele can't excrete metals like those with the epsilon-2 or -3 allele, and are especially at risk for buildup of Hg in the brain. So having this allele could predispose someone to faster rates of Hg uptake than others in the populace and, thus, create greater susceptibility to potential heavy metal based pathologies like ES.  This is a possible reason why some of us get ES and others don't. And it may have some bearing on how much more chelation is needed for those with the epsilon-4 allele to successfully treat their ES.

Article Abstract
Apolipoprotein-E (apo-E) genotyping has been investigated as an indicator of susceptibility to heavy metal (i.e., lead) neurotoxicity. Moreover, the apo-E epsilon (epsilon)4 allele is a major risk factor for neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). A theoretical biochemical basis for this risk factor is discussed herein, supported by data from 400 patients with presumptive mercury-related neuro-psychiatric symptoms and in whom apo-E determinations were made. A statistically relevant shift toward the at-risk apo-E epsilon4 groups was found in the patients p<0.001). The patients possessed a mean of 13.7 dental amalgam fillings and 31.5 amalgam surfaces. This far exceeds the number capable of producing the maximum identified tolerable daily intake of mercury from amalgam. The clinical diagnosis and proof of chronic low-level mercury toxicity has been difficult due to the non-specific nature of the symptoms and signs. Dental amalgam is the greatest source of mercury in the general population and brain, blood and urine mercury levels increase correspondingly with the number of amalgams and amalgam surfaces in the mouth. Confirmation of an elevated body burden of mercury can be made by measuring urinary mercury, after provocation with 2,3,-dimercapto-propane sulfonate (DMPS) and this was measured in 150 patients. Apo-E genotyping warrants investigation as a clinically useful biomarker for those at increased risk of neuropathology, including AD, when subjected to long-term mercury exposures. Additionally, when clinical findings suggest adverse effects of chronic mercury exposure, a DMPS urine mercury challenge appears to be a simple, inexpensive procedure that provides objective confirmatory evidence. An opportunity could now exist for primary health practitioners to help identify those at greater risk and possibly forestall subsequent neurological deterioration.

IAFF Position Summary
The IAFF’s position on locating cell towers commercial wireless infrastructure on fire department facilities, as adopted by its membership in August 2004 (1), is that the IAFF oppose the use of fire stations as base stations for towers and/or antennas for the conduction of cell phone transmissions until a study with the highest scientific merit and integrity on health effects of exposure to low-intensity RF/MW radiation is conducted and it is proven that such sitings are not hazardous to the health of our members.

Discussion
These documents cover the issue of disabling illnesses some firefighters endure after installation of cellular transmission antennas on the firehouses they work in. The documents discuss and reference a significant number of scientific studies revealing the non-thermal effects of cellular transmissions on live organisms the IAFF found as it researched the plainly obvious link between the onset of their firefighters' illnesses and the activation of the cell antennas.

The studies provide compelling facts that human health is impacted -- in many cases severely -- by cellular antenna and cell phone emissions. These same facts, in tandem with the medical record showing the health of many children and teachers abruptly fell directly after cell antenna activation on school buildings, have led many school districts to fight against the placement of cellular antennas on schools. The IAFF has taken an identical position against the siting of cellular antennas on firehouses because of the undeniable danger to their members seen in this body of facts and their own medical case histories.

Finally, it is important to note the difficulty that schools and the IAFF have had in protecting themselves from the nearly unrestricted proliferation of cellular antennas by the wireless telecommunications industry, even with the available scientific facts and medical record evidence showing human health hazard from these devices' emissions. A particularly telling example of the barrier the public faces from the wireless industry, not only in being kept safe from the effects of this technology but also in just being allowed to be educated and make informed decisions on these topics, is the U.S. Supreme Court's denial of the IAFF's petition to have more modern cellular emission studies conducted by labs without wireless industry affiliation. The two final documents are the IAFF’s Amicus Curiae's brief in support of the petition for certiorari and the summary of the IAFF's Supreme Court case.
